You don't have to be controlled by difficult people! Strange as it may seem, other people are not nearly as committed to our happiness as we are. In fact, sometimes it seems like they’re on a mission to make us miserable! There’s always that one person. The one who hijacks our emotions. The one who seems to thrive on drama. If we could just “fix” that person, everything would be better. But we can’t fix other people. We can only make choices about ourselves.

Resumen del Editor
You can rise above. You do have options. Do you work in a toxic environment or have a toxic boss? You're not alone! Today, unattainable expectations, emotional harassment, and demands to do more with less often leave employees overworked, underpaid, insecure, and out of options. Must you continue to put up with poisonous people in a morale-crushing environment?
In Rising Above a Toxic Workplace, you'll learn how to endure, cope, or quit if necessary. Drawing from authentic - sometimes horrific - real-life stories, authors Gary Chapman, Paul White, and Harold Myra blend their expertise to give you practical guidance, empowering insight, and realistic hope. You'll discover: how workplaces can become unhealthy and how to avoid getting wounded; what drives toxic leaders and why they are so damaging to those around them; essential tips for maintaining your sanity while dealing with dysfunctional colleagues; and counsel on how to decide when to leave - for your own mental, emotional, and physical well-being.

The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

The book of Enoch was thought to be lost for over 2,000 years until, in 1773, a traveller brought three copies back from Ethiopia. Whether or not this ancient book was actually authored by Enoch, the father of Methuselah and great-grandfather of Noah, is an ongoing debate among historians and theologians. But all recognise the book of Enoch as one of the most important apocalyptic works outside of the Bible.

Historia
Turning the other cheek does not mean standing by while the enemies of God dismantle Christian civilization and brainwash our children. Decrying the cowardice that masquerades as meekness, Eric Metaxas summons the Church to battle. An attenuated and unbiblical “faith” based on what Bonhoeffer called “cheap grace” has sapped the spiritual vitality of millions of Americans. Paying lip service to an insipid “evangelism,” they shrink from combating the evils of our time. Metaxas refutes the pernicious lie that fighting evil politicizes Christianity.

The Qur'an, believed by Muslims to be the word of God, was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad 1,400 years ago. It is the supreme authority in Islam and the living source of all Islamic teaching; it is a sacred text and a book of guidance that sets out the creed, rituals, ethics, and laws of the Islamic religion. It has been one of the most influential books in the history of literature. Recognized as the greatest literary masterpiece in Arabic, it has nevertheless remained difficult to understand in its English translations.

The secret to happiness is to acknowledge and transform suffering, not to run away from it. Here, Thich Nhat Hanh offers practices and inspiration transforming suffering and finding true joy. Thich Nhat Hanh acknowledges that because suffering can feel so bad, we try to run away from it or cover it up by consuming. We find something to eat or turn on the television. But unless we’re able to face our suffering, we can’t be present and available to life, and happiness will continue to elude us.

In fact, sometimes it seems like they’re on a mission to make us miserable! There’s always that one person. The one who hijacks our emotions. The one who seems to thrive on drama. If we could just “fix” that person, everything would be better. But we can’t fix other people. We can only make choices about ourselves.

Stanford Professor Robert Sutton weaves together the best psychological and management research with compelling stories and cases to reveal the mindset and moves of the best (and worst) bosses. This book was inspired by the deluge of emails, research, phone calls, and conversations that Dr. Sutton experienced after publishing his blockbuster best seller The No Asshole Rule. A Life Saver
This is an amazing book. I believe that it will resonate specifically with a certain temperament more than others. All can really benefit, but I believe people that are particularly empathetic will really find comfort in this book. At times, I find it difficult to identify and then describe toxic behavior because it is so foreign and difficult to understand. This book gives meaning to my experience and I suspect that of many others.
It gives hope, and reminds us to focus on strengthening ourselves, which I believe to be especially good advice. You never know when you will run into a toxic or dysfunctional person. But with helpful tools to identify and deal with them, we are that much more empowered to handle them effectively, while still being our best selves.
I better go, my toxic boss is around the corner!

A good read for those in a toxic workplace
This book provided good relatable examples of what toxic behaviors people are experiencing in their workplace. We are all in it together, except when we are not. This book will help you articulate some of the problems you are facing at work and the author provides some solutions of what you can do to overcome the all too common challenge of working with toxic people or in a toxic workplace.

Kind of disappointing
A lot of discussion about the problems but relatively little practical info to help resolve/learn to deal with those problems.

Great for any workplace
Helpful for evaluating any workplace. This book can help you learn the signs of toxic workplace behavior. It provides identifiers for toxic behavior, action steps for dealing with the behavior and lots of resources for continued study. The author also provided examples of healthy workplace culture and leadership. So, it informs you on what to work towards as well as what to avoid.
