Resumen del Editor

Fully authorized by the Margaret Mitchell estate, Rhett Butler's People is the astonishing and long-awaited novel that parallels the Great American Novel, Gone with the Wind.

Twelve years in the making, the publication of Rhett Butler's People marks a major and historic cultural event. Through the storytelling mastery of award-winning writer Donald McCaig, the life and times of the dashing Rhett Butler unfolds.

Through Rhett's eyes we meet the people who shaped his larger than life personality as it sprang from Margaret Mitchell: Langston Butler, Rhett's unyielding father; Rosemary his steadfast sister; Tunis Bonneau, Rhett's best friend and a onetime slave; Belle Watling, the woman for whom Rhett cared long before he met Scarlett O'Hara at Twelve Oaks Plantation, on the fateful eve of the Civil War.

Of course there is Scarlett. Katie Scarlett O'Hara, the headstrong, passionate woman whose life is inextricably entwined with Rhett's: more like him than she cares to admit; more in love with him than she'll ever know.

Brought to vivid and authentic life by the hand of a master, Rhett Butler's People fulfills the dreams of those whose imaginations have been indelibly marked by Gone with the Wind.

very good!

this was a great story that gave insights to untold parts of Gone with the Wind. it has a different ending than Scarlet, the original Gone with the Wind sequel. Both are good stories that just take a different direction. I loved this book!

True to form

The book captures Rhett Butler and all of his glory. It also captures the Darker side of the south.
It is Historically accurate in how African American were so Brutally treated. the N word is thrown alot so just a heads up. In some places it was hard to stomach but history is history the good and the bad. this book has it all

Perfect Sequel to Gone with the Wind!

Such a great job experiencing events from Rhetts POV and those which were happening in in his life while absent from Scarlett’s.

It worked nicely with the original novel. However, if you’ve only seen the movie you may find it confusing or out of sequence.

So much better than “Scarlett”.

meh

the narrator isn't right. Also some important pieces are brushed over. Bonnie's death especially. I liked that there was story after GWTW ended but it was predictable. Yay happy ending, I suppose.

I like anything gone with the wind

I like anything gone with the wind. This book is great for driving, painting, walking just let's your mind wonder what happens after he gives a damn? If there were any more books on Rhett and Scarlett I'd read them.

Male narrator very distracting

with such an iconic story as GWTW there needed to be a female narrator and Male. Rhett doesn't sound southern at all he sounds like he's a 300lb prize fighter and mamy doesn't even sound Black let alone southern. VERY DISAPPOINTED Seemed no effort was taken to sound like the original characters at all. I'd love to listen again with new narrators. Some of the skipping back and forth onto stories we have never heard of is also very confusing.

Scarlet and Rhett

This story gives us a picture and history of Rhett, Rosemary, Belle Wattling, and other characters as well. It answers questions. It is the perfect addition to “Gone With The Wind.” I loved, laughed and anticipated my way through the chapters!
It was interesting to see more deeply into the personalities of many of the characters; and to view them looking introspectively into themselves and their lives, past, present, and speculatively at the future. Great Book!

Longer than it needed to be

Found myself wanting to skip through some parts. Due to it not feeling relevant to the story. The last 15-20 minutes could have been eliminated completely. But overall it was not a bad listen. The voice of Rhett was consistent with character expectations. I hate when the voice doesn’t fit the character. It can be so hard to listen past that. Story was different than GWW as it should be. But held true on many key story events as Rhett experienced them.

Not what I had hoped for…

I read GWTW, Scarlett & this book within a month.

Like most of you I loved GWTW, so I was hungry for more and moved on to the authorized sequels. Scarlett was slow to start then rushed at the end in a similar way to GWTW. I loved it & felt the author did the original book justice.

However, this book was a let down. The author deviated from the original story line and I found the discrepancies very distracting. I also don’t think he stayed true to the characters, especially when it came to Melanie Wilkes & Belle Watling. He took far too many liberties, so that like another reviewer said it read like ‘bad fan fiction.’

Scarlett and Rhett’s love story from a DPOV

The book was awesome ! I loved exploring the lives of the people that shaped Rhett Butler’s, his devotion and love for his sister Rosemary and his mother. To my dismay, Rhett’s father is a cad, bully and coward. Scarlett’s transformation into a loving mother and wife is incredible!

But for the love of God why didn’t audible get a female narrator for the female characters?!?!?!
