This novel now is 30 years old. Obsolete he-man male lead in style.

Thirty years ago, literary agents and publishers pigeonholed the romance novel genre, at that time, as requiring a bull-headed, keep the female lead in the dark for her own good, type of male lead.
Of its type, this is well-written but it shows its age in that the male lead does not at all consider the female lead to be his equal nor legitimately a decision-maker.

An old favorite reborn!

This is one of my favorite JAK books. Thre story is now somewhat dated, but it still has the aspect that I love the most: 2 very different finding both respect a CD love. The excellent and varied narration brings it to life in a new way.

Well-written

Reallllllly hated Joel! I get the idea of making the two characters so very different to show how they balance each other in the end, but almost stopped reading as the Pompous A-s repulsed me. McFadden still irritates me with her voice always making the lead female sound as if on the verge of tears.

Read 8 times since it was first released

This is one of my favorite JAK books. I have the paperback book, the ebook and the audiobook. There was a problem with the audible/Kindle connection and so I just listened to it Instead of read/listen. Quite a few of the kindle/Audible books have not been connecting, hope the problem is fixed soon. Anyway I enjoyed listening to this book again.

Mystery and romance

Older contemporary offering from this popular author. Great story and characters, romantic suspense with humor. Well done!

The male character is so disgusting I have not been able to finish this one. Wish I had not purchased it.

Bad. Just bad

She takes over as the CEO and he’s lying to her and keeping things from her from day 1!
He would be fired immediately and anyone else who didn’t tell her things were purposely being kept from her would also be canned!
I know people LOVE thinking that love just blossoms out of anything because women are stupid and men are “Just so handsome!” But I couldn’t make it past chapter 4 without wanting to punch him myself for being a criminal back stabbing self righteous a**.

all in all

all in all this was a good book not great but good. i dont so many people who talk as these characters did in this book. i love characters who are more realistic and i understood where the author was headed so i didnt mind. besides that the banter between leti and joel was nice to hear over all.

The Perfect Patsey

Love Jayne Ann’s books,but not so crazy about this specific genre of hers.Her books on alchemy are so much more entertaining and just reading her books are so much better than how the narrators portrayed .It was ok.

Brasts and bads and sax, oh, my!

In spite of anything JAK did right, the choice of narrator completely ruined this book for me. Her annoyingly affected accent yanked me out of the story over and over again. What were the producers/directors thinking? An audiobook should be about the story, not indulging a narrator's speech impediment. Plus, for her own good, someone should tell her that she's forcing her voice to a lower register than it should have. Painful to listen to and not doing someone whose vocal cords are her life any favors.

The book. This is one that I particlarly like from her older books. The smart, shy yet sassy heroine. The overbearing hero who has to learn that he can't always win and doesn't need to. The tug of war between them, although very real, is shaded with humor. If you want an angst-filled read, this isn't for you. If you want a fun and romantic and well-told story, give this book a try. Although, I"d advise you to read the book rather than basing your judgement on this poorly narrated audiobook.
