Virginia Ford is the pen name of a writer from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Polarity is the first book of a three-part series: Polarity (P1), Polar Crossing (P2), and Polarized (P3). Virginia began writing in her mid-30s, dabbling with romances and kink short stories. But her love of writing goes back to childhood, books like The Velveteen Rabbit and Black Beauty, read aloud to her by her grandmother. As a young woman, she fell in love with the Victorian classics: Jayne Eyre, Wuthering Heights, Little Woman, Frankenstein, Lady Audley’s Secret, etc. She became an admirer of the French writer Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette, and later, the American erotica writer Henry Miller, particularly because of their authentic, unflinching portrayals of love and sexuality. She loved the poetry of Mary Oliver. Virginia retired from a career in banking when she wrote Polarity. She became a full-time writer, living in the Blue Ridge Mountains north of Charlottesville, where she tended her garden and wrote the remainder of her hours. She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2018 and died in October 2019, leaving behind a manuscript and notes for the continuation and completion of the Polarity series to her friend and editor, James Hayhurst (author of Pilot in Command and other works of mainstream fiction, as well as a children's book) who promised to complete the series.
