Gay Courter has spent her career as a writer in film, television, fiction and nonfiction. Millions of copies of her books have sold and five titles have appeared on the New York Times best-seller list. Her best-known works are the novels "The Midwife "(one of the top-selling books of 1982), "River of Dreams," and "Code Ezra" (all published by Houghton Mifflin), "Flowers in the Blood"(Dutton), and "I Speak for This Child: True Stories of a Child Advocate" (Crown, 1995), which recounts her 25 years as a guardian ad Litem, helping children in the Florida courts. I Speak for This Child was nominated by her publisher for a Pulitzer Prize and its publication led to many television appearances, including the Today show, Good Morning America, and 20/20; numerous awards; and public speaking engagements throughout the US. A frequent and savvy traveler, as well as an avid collector of credit card points to aid her wanderlust, Gay also writes a travel blog for the Creators Syndicate. Her website is gaycourter.com Gay did the research for her latest novel, "The Girl in the Box," aboard the Diamond Princess in 2017. With her husband, Philip, Gay founded Courter Films & Associates (courterfilms.com), based in Crystal River, Florida, in the early 1970s, and together they have produced more than 300 documentary, educational, and corporate films and won numerous awards, including two Emmys. Crystal River remains the Courter’s home base, and they raised their three children there. Their eldest, Blake, is the chief technology officer of a software engineering company that specializes in 3-D printing; once his parents were quarantined, he leapt into action and helped secure the services of the PR firm that provided much-needed assistance during the Courter’s successful pressure campaign to get all the Americans repatriated. Their youngest, Ashley Rhodes-Courter, who the Courters adopted when she was twelve, is the author of "Three Little Words" (Simon & Schuster, 2008), recounting her story of entanglement in the foster care system, and its sequel, "Three More Words" (Simon & Schuster, 2015).
