Writing Science Fiction Horror

Collected here are the stories, poems, and religious writings that preceded and helped form the science fiction and fantasy genres. The collection explores the key imaginative roots and their later literary permutations. The author list alone reads like a literary who’s who and includes many writers not primarily known for their forays into the fantastic. Organized by topic rather than simple chronology, this volume allows the listener to trace the history of robots, aliens, and apocalypses up to some of their most recent manifestations.

Deep beneath the earth of a North Cumbrian wood lies the germinating mass of a fungus-like organism. How long it has occupied the fibrous soil of that place is uncertain, but Dr. Jim Alburton estimates it is close to 10 million years. Then again, this is not his sphere of expertise. After falling foul of the law, he learns that discerning between friend and foe is not an easy task, especially when reality gets turned upside down.

With these words we are launched into the exploits of an exceptional group of children as they play out through the Texas Hill Country and across the Blackland Prairies. Are they within the realm of science-fiction, or are they all simply due to drug-induced hallucinations that resulted from government- funded experimentation by a private laboratory, the University of Texas Psychology Department and the U.S. Air Force?

Two enemy factions race toward a childbirth: The Circle of Benediction, a secret society whose mission is to destroy anyone with supernatural abilities, and the Watchers, an underground group sworn to protect those with powers. The Watchers, led by Jacob Pennington, an elderly man of unnatural strength, secure the child just before the Circle destroys him. But, can they keep him alive despite the Circle's resources? Held up at Pennington's Rampart Industries, the Watchers will make their stand.

Method actors inhabit their characters. Method writers do, too. John goes to elaborate lengths to study the habits, physiology, and needs of a vampire. From the mundane to the emotional, he wants to lend a sense of realism to his horror writing that goes beyond the pale. But is the undead life all it's cracked up to be? Can he last a month inside this experiment?

Jace used to love fishing in the morning. That was until a deer stood up on its back legs and began walking into the mist. Curiosity pushed Jace to investigate the creature, but what will help push him back to life he used to know?

Merrick Whyte is the psychonaut, mind reader, master of the gateways, and destroyer of worlds. He is also bereft of power, stolen by Aiwass, the dark demigod, for reasons which are far from clear. But Aiwass is explicit about the impending uncreation of the multiverse - an atrocity machinated by Orthon, a first-order demon. To avert this abomination, Merrick is tasked with seeking out the Dancer - an emissary of Orthon and member of a swelling infestation of adepts called the Enclave. This will prove to be just the start of a treacherous road.

A live event at Gosbecks Manor, run by paranormal TV show, That's My Ghost!, opens a portal to the past, and spirit world of the Celts. The show's medium is possessed by the spirit of a centurion, whose only goal is to kill the last remaining descendant of the Celtic warrior who'd murdered his general. Unknown to Mark Royce - he is that last remaining descendant - and he's sitting in the audience.

The folk of the dark and mysterious Eben Hollow try desperately to defend their village from the evil hand of Satan and his minions. A bevy of villainous foes led by the wicked sorceress, Eva Strella, and her servant of the woodland, Lord Ganoate, give everything they can conjure to destroy the Village of Eben Hollow and scatter its people once and for all. Should they triumph, the gates of hell shall open, unleashing Lucifer's plague upon the seven provinces and the world.

Something has changed inside of Richard. While he's still Bernie's friend, there is a new, darker path he's starting to walk down. That isn't helped when a long forgotten vampire enters their lives: the one who started them down this path.
