Retired Adventurer

He saved the world. Now he just wants to run a tavern. Garrett Ironwood was an incredible adventurer who killed the Demon King and ended a war that nearly destroyed everything. Now, he's bought a broken-down inn in the middle of nowhere, determined to spend his remaining years in peaceful obscurity. Pour drinks. Serve food. Forget the blood on his hands. But peace is hard to find when a beautiful maid with secrets moves into your tavern. When a runaway princess lands on your doorstep. When the monsters in the forest start acting like something is driving them toward your village.

They called him Sven, the Shatterfist. One of a group of heroes who fought the Demon Lord Mannon. He's finally returned home. But for Sven, after returning from abroad, life isn't what it used to be. Adventuring isn't what it used to be. Things have changed. Something is different. The obvious next step? Retire. Settle down. Start his own tavern. Drink with magic girls. Maybe not in that order.

They called him Sven, the Shatterfist. The man who forgot. The man who remembered. In the bastion of the Adventurer's Twilight, he'll find the answers long since buried. He won't be alone. He's got family. Lloyd, the recruits. The friends he's made, and the friends he's kept. And most of all, Ash. Together they'll rebuild the life lost to time.

They called him Sven, the Shatterfist. At least they used to. Back before the war with the Dark Lord. He was an S Ranked Adventurer. A man who grew up poor. Now he owns the Adventurer's Rest. A tavern he runs with his two companions. The magic girl Ash and the half elf bartender Lloyd. They're not quite the family he was born into, but they're the family he's found. In a world that's moved on, they'll help him find what he's lost. Himself.

I walked away from adventuring. Bought a tavern at the edge of the wild. Poured drinks, kept the peace… and pretended the road stopped calling my name. Things were quiet. Peaceful, even. Then one day, I stepped into an alley and found a feral woman with a knife and a debt she wanted to pay with her body. I refused. She vanished. I told myself I wasn’t thinking about her, about looking for her—so I decided to go and check the road the way any adventurer, err, barkeep would. But when a creature started hunting near the mountain pass, I found her again—Ryn, wild and suspicious, hunting...

They called him Sven, the Shatterfist. And they will again. An S-Ranked Adventurer who lost his way. His journey will take him far and wide. Back to the places he used to know. He's not alone. Friends, comrades. Ash. Memories found and memories gained. Answers give rise to other questions. The Shatterfist moves on.

First hard frost, and a half-dead carrier hits my door after closing. His fingers are black. His partner is gone. I gave up adventuring for a tavern at the edge of the wild. Three women share my bed, the common room fills every night, and the well finally tests clean. Now travelers are vanishing off the north road. The trail climbs an old branch nobody uses, to a ruined wayhouse with black water under its floor. Whoever holds it is collecting people. Ryn reads the ground with a hand the cold has almost ruined. Senna holds the black water back with paper and chalk, and pays for it in blood. ...

First the salt wagon stops coming. Then the grain. Then the lamp oil. Someone is strangling the road to my tavern—and the tavern is the prize. I gave up adventuring for a quiet tavern at the edge of the wild. These days a seer and a scout share my bed, the common room is full every night, and I have more to lose than I ever did on the road. The wagons that still move pay for “protection.” The ones that don’t get hit by masked riders who know exactly which loads to take. A wounded drover rolls in with an arrow in his shoulder. A blight mark appears on my well, painted to scare the ...

A retired dwarf. A runaway elf. And an inn that refuses to stay quiet. Borin Stonebeard is done with adventure. The retired dwarf has traded danger for a quiet life, running a cozy village inn where the ale is strong, the fire is warm, and the biggest problem is running out of clean mugs. Until an elf shows up at his door. Elara is polite, capable… and clearly hiding something. She asks for nothing more than a room and honest work, and despite his better judgment, Borin lets her stay. It’s only temporary. At least, that’s what he tells himself. But as Elara settles in, the inn begins ...
