It's the year 2035 and fiction has been banned by the government for five years. Writing novels is a crime. Reading fairytales to children is punishable by law. Fern Dostoy is a criminal. Officially, she has retrained in a new job outside of the arts but she still scrawls in a secret notepad in an effort to capture what her life has become: her work on a banned phone line, reading bedtime stories to sleep-starved children; Hunter, the young boy who calls her and has captured her heart; and the dreaded visits from government officials.

The poem by Edgar Allan Poe, first published on January 29, 1845, in the New York Evening Mirror. The poet read it publicly for the first time in a literary salon hosted by his friend Anne Lynch Botta .The work is noteworthy for its distinct, rhythmic, melodic sound, linguistic stylization, and a sense of horror. It tells of a mysterious visit that a speaking raven makes to a man in despair after the loss of his beloved, portraying the slow process of the unfortunate man descending into madness.

The Berry House is a story about a 12-year-old boy named Bobby Berry. He is a straight-A student with big dreams and aspirations to become somebody. His whole life is turned upside down when he goes on an unexpected ride...on the wild side with his older brother. After waking up from a coma, Bobby has no memory of the events that landed him in the hospital, handcuffed to a bed. He wakes up only to find out that he has been charged with accessory to murder. When Bobby goes to court, the judge orders him to do two months in a regional juvenile detention center.

This short novel is an accompaniment to my second book, From Whence They Came. It coincides with the time period as to when that story takes place, though from an entirely different perspective. By listening both pieces of fiction a more complete picture is revealed. Jimmy, the main character, is an entitled 30-something whose mundane life is suddenly swept up into a secret organization that is directly linked to the aliens and their world changing course of events.
