Messianic Hebrew Bible

Manuscript families are important and are a lot like people. It is important for a person when they can trace their ancestry back to a significant important historical person. The same can be said of manuscript families. This book is the direct descendant of the original Gospel of Matthew written by the disciple of Yeshua (Jesus) himself, Matthew; diligently maintained, not by Christian scholars, but by the Jewish Masoretic community. A masterpiece of deep learning and fine sensibility, Robert Alter's translation of the Hebrew Bible, now complete, reanimates one of the formative works of our culture. Targum Jonathan, otherwise referred to as Targum Yonasan/Yonatan, is the official eastern (Babylonian) targum to the Nevi'im. Its early origins, however, are western (i.e. from the Land of Israel), and the Talmudic tradition attributes its authorship to Jonathan ben Uzziel. Its overall style is very similar to that of Targum Onkelos, though at times it seems to be a looser paraphrase. The original language of Targum Jonathan is Aramaic. This edition is English. In Talmudic times (and to this day in Yemenite Jewish communities) Targum Jonathan was read as a verse-by-verse translation ...

Targum Onkelos (or Unkelus) is the official eastern (Babylonian) targum (Aramaic translation) to the Torah. However, its early origins may have been western, in Israel. Its authorship is attributed to Onkelos, a famous convert to Judaism in Tannaic times (c. 35–120 CE). According to Jewish tradition, the content of Targum Onkelos was originally conveyed by God to Moses at Mount Sinai. However, it was later forgotten by the masses, and rerecorded by Onkelos. Some identify this translation as the work of Aquila of Sinope in an Aramaic translation (Zvi Hirsch Chajes), or believe that the ...

Shalom, friends! Let's start a journey. A journey into the incredible and fascinating world of Biblical Hebrew. What would it be like to speak the language of Adam and Eve, Moses and Joshua, King David, Daniel, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Yeshua (Jesus)? Yes Yeshua! When Yeshua told the little girl to get up, he said "Talitha Kum" (Mark 5:41). When he shouts from the stake, he says "Eloi Eloi Sabachthani" (Mark 15:34). That's Hebrew, friends.

Paul said the law is holy. So why do so many believe he abolished it? Ask most Christians what Paul taught about the law, and you will hear that grace replaced it, that Galatians set us free from it, and that no one can keep it anyway. It sounds settled, like a software update that wiped out version 1.0. But an update leaves release notes. This book goes looking for them. Claim by claim, it sets the most common arguments beside the words Paul and the other apostles actually wrote: How a sinner is made righteous by grace through faith, and what the righteous are then called to walk in Why ...

Did the cross end the temple, the Torah, the Sabbath, and the feasts? The first believers did not think so. Read what they actually did. Many Christians were taught that the temple is finished, that Paul broke away from Judaism, that the Sabbath moved to Sunday, and that the feasts belong to the Jews. Lay a few verses on the table and it looks like an open-and-shut case. But that picture has been cropped. This book puts the missing edges back. Verse by verse, in the order things happened, it follows the question from Solomon's dedication to the New Jerusalem, and watches what the apostles ...

The Most Important Chapter in the Old Testament Has Been Hiding Half Its Meaning From You. Isaiah 53 is the mountain peak of Old Testament prophecy: the Suffering Servant who is wounded for our transgressions, led like a lamb to the slaughter, and buried with the wicked. Christians have treasured it for two thousand years. But most readers have only ever seen half of it. Because when you read Isaiah through both the Hebrew Masoretic Text and the Greek Septuagint, with the Dead Sea Scrolls weighing in, the chapter opens up in ways your English Bible only hints at in the footnotes you've been...

During the course of our biblical studies over the last twenty-five years we’ve discovered several interesting insights into the Hebrew Scriptures. For example, probably very little of what we’ve included in this publication would have seen the light of day if we hadn’t learned a long time ago to approach everything from an Hebraic perspective. No matter how many times we translate it into other languages the Bible is still an Hebraic book, which introduces several important considerations. Undoubtedly the most important would be the Hebraic approach to writing history, recording ...
