In so doing, he has set his half-brothers against their own cousin. Although Gareth and Gwen are holding out hope that more bloodshed can be averted, by January of 1151, Cadell has laid siege to Prince Hywel's castle at Aberystwyth.

When a deer hunt in Wychwood ends in tragedy, suspicion is directed toward the huntsman, a boyhood friend of Nicholas. This story is set at the end of the 10th century and charts the journey of a young warrior, whose father, Bersi, is killed during a raid on Wessex. Sven Bersisson has to grow up quickly and to follow in his father’s footsteps.
