In November 1944, the U.S. Navy fleet lay at anchor in Ulithi Harbor, deep in the Pacific Ocean, when the oiler USS Mississinewa erupted in a ball of flames. Japan's secret weapon, the Kaiten - a manned suicide submarine - had succeeded in its first mission. The Kaiten was so secret that even Japanese naval commanders didn't know of its existence. And the Americans kept it secret as well. Embarrassed by the shocking surprise attack, the U.S. Navy refused to salvage or inspect the sunken Mighty Miss.

One of the most fascinating aspects of World War II was Japan's use of suicide pilots known around the globe as kamikazes, though the Japanese referred to them as Tokubetsu kōgekitai ("Special Attack Units"). Translated as "God Wind", "Divine Wind", and "God Spirit", kamikazes would sink 47 Allied vessels and damage over 300 by the end of the war, but the rise in the use of kamikaze attacks was evidence of the loss of Japan's air superiority and its waning industrial might.

Dubbed one of the most haunted destinations on the planet, the Island of Hashima aka Gunkanjima aka Ghost Island, holds nothing back when it comes to encompassing the undeniable and ultimate fear factor where humans are concerned......The most terrifying forest in the world is the location of massive amounts of suicides in one area. This determination has led to the Aokigahara Forest being one of the most haunted woodlands in the world. The forest is dense with wandering trails littered by scattered and some hidden human remains, nooses and other objects intended for ending one's life.

Aokigahara, also known as the sea of trees, is a forest on the flanks of Mount Fuji on the island of Honshu in Japan, spread over 30 square kilometres of rock hard lava which was laid down during the last major eruption of Mount Fuji in 864. The western edge of Aokigahara, where there are various caves that fill with ice in winter, is a popular destination for tourists. Parts of Aokigahara are very dense, and the porous lava rock absorbs sound, all adding to a sense of solitude that some visitors decide to be the perfect place to implement their final act.
