"Have you considered My servant Job?" Those are the words spoken by the Lord to the Accuser. They were spoken with Divine confidence. God knew the character of Job, and knew that he would not forsake his Maker, even in the midst of unimaginable persecution. From a study of Job's inspired book, the Bible student can learn about evil and suffering, about the character of godly people, about the futility of human reasoning, and about the blessed assurance we can have in the midst of trials. God is not dead, nor does He sleep: Wrong shall fail. Right shall prevail. The Lord is in control. Trust...

The Psalms are the most quoted, most loved, and most misunderstood books in the Bible. People reach for a verse when they need comfort. Very few sit down and read them properly; from the beginning, with context, with history, with the full weight of what the writer was actually going through when the words were written. This book changes that. H.K. Holland opens the first twenty psalms with rare clarity; bringing their historical backgrounds, their theological depth, and their very human emotions fully to life. You will discover things in these pages that most people who have read the ...

1 Samuel is the hinge on which Israel's history turns. It tells the story of how a loose confederation of tribes, led by intermittent judges, became a monarchy—and how ambivalent that transformation was. When the people demand a king "like all the other nations," God grants the request even as he names it a rejection of his own rule, then works through the very institution to carry his promises forward. No book in Scripture wrestles more directly with the meaning and the danger of human power. This volume guides readers through the book's distinctive architecture: the overlapping lives of...

What if Jesus Himself walked you through forty years of wilderness? After the tabernacle was built. After the sacrificial system was taught. After everything Israel needed to know was delivered at the foot of Sinai. They knew everything. And almost none of it was enough. In Numbers with Jesus, Christ narrates the brutal, beautiful stretch of ground between knowing what to do and actually doing it. Through His voice — intimate, unflinching, and full of a grief that only God can carry — Jesus walks you through the book the church rushes past to get to the Promised Land. This is not a ...

The book lays bare the lives of humanity’s forefathers and reveals ancient history through a contemporary experience. If you’ve always wanted to read the Bible and understand it from beginning to ...

Israel never stood higher than it does at the opening of 1 Kings—and never fell faster. The book begins with the death of David and the crowning of Solomon, the wisest and wealthiest king the nation would ever know. It rises to its great climax in the building of the Temple in Jerusalem, the house where heaven and earth were believed to meet. And then, with sobering speed, it traces the unraveling: a king whose divided heart compromises everything he built, a kingdom torn in two, and generations of rival rulers who lead the people steadily away from the covenant that made them who they ...

The book of Jeremiah, like all other Old Testament books, is a mystery that God intends for us to solve. Judah has fallen in sin. God sends the army from the North (Babylon) to destroy them for their sins. Judah goes into captivity for seventy years. Eventually, God punishes Babylon and sends Zerubbabel and Ezra to guide his people back to Jerusalem. There is more to this story that meets the immediate eye. Surface lessons exist, no doubt, but there is a bigger picture that involves the gospel of Jesus Christ (truth) (Colossians 2:16-17 and Hebrews 8:1-5).
