Seventh-grader Dawn Hibana has an aloof dad, one odd friend, and a generally unremarkable life. Dawn often feels like the little island town of Downbeat, cloaked in a fog that rises from the surrounding river, is all there is to the magical world of Aria. One day, on the walk to school with her depressed-yet-handsy best friend, they spot a shooting star. Although a skeptic, Dawn makes a private wish at her friend’s insistence. She gets much more than she asked for when a nine-foot-tall giantess on a flying motorcycle drops out of the sky and bashes her face in with a bass guitar.
