Geoffrey of Monmouth (c. 1095 - c. 1155) was one of the major figures in the development of British historiography. His chronicle The History of the Kings of Britain was a classic of its time. Monmouth claims that Brutus, or Brute of Troy, is a descendant of the Trojan hero Aeneas. Brutus experiences a series of adventures, including a close encounter with the Sirens. Eventually, he settles in Albion (Britain), where he defeats a race of giants.
