Chase and his friends Nicole and Rashawn made it to the safety of Nicole’s family’s farm, the winter home of the Rossi Brothers Circus, but the flood waters are rising and they need to reach higher ground. Zane Obispo spends every day exploring the sleeping volcano in his backyard. "The Beast", as he calls it, is the one place where he can escape other kids, who make fun of him because he has a limp and walks with a cane. After a plane crashes into The Beast, a mysterious girl named Brooks shows up at Zane's doorstep, insisting that they meet at the volcano, where she will reveal a terrible secret. Zane agrees. Brooks tells him that the volcano is actually a centuries-old prison for the Mayan god of death, whose destiny is directly tied to Zane's.

Thirteen year-old Chase and his dad are "storm runners", traveling across the country chasing hurricanes, tornadoes, and floods. When disaster strikes, Chase's dad is always ready to lend a hand... Or so it seems. In the aftermath of the hurricane of the century, chase realizes his "disaster hunter" dad isn't the hero he makes himself out to be. It's up to Chase to do the right thing and rescue the father he once knew.

Stromsoe has tried to put the past behind him and was rescued from the abyss by a former colleague who offers him a job at his private security firm. Stromsoe's first assignment is to protect local television personality Frankie Hatfield from a stalker. But the further Stromsoe is drawn into this case, the more he finds that the net of intrigue is wide and ultimately leads back to the man who killed his family. As events conspire against him, Stromsoe learns that prison is no safeguard against revenge.

Dion, the healer and Wolfwalker, is back home with her friends, and they are preparing for war against Longear. There's trouble with the wolves in the enemy counties. Many of them are fleeing in droves. The rest appear to have broken their generations-long pact with the humans, and are hunting down refugees for the enemy. Dion can no longer communicate with their packsong, and must find out why they have fled and turned.
