En Alagaësia, des mois se sont écoulés depuis la chute du tyran Galbatorix. Murtagh le Dragonnier et son dragon Thorn sont toujours considérés comme des traîtres et des meurtriers, car le royaume ignore l’aide qu’ils ont apportée à Eragon et Nasuada. Ils vivent en parias, à l’abri des regards. Mais la rumeur d’étranges évènements, aux confins de l’Alagaësia, ravivent de douloureux souvenirs pour Murtagh et Thorn.
