Barezzi (später Verdis Schwiegervater) war ein großer Musikfreund und verschaffte Verdi ein Stipendium um in Mailand Musik zu studieren. 1835 wurde Verdi Organist und später Kapellmeister in Busseto. 1839 wurde an der Mailänder Scala Verdis erste Oper „Oberto“ uraufgeführt.
