An unidentified woman is found dead with a set of false teeth mysteriously gripped in her hand. A young tutor finds himself accused of a bizarre art theft. A Russian refugee in hiding is helped by Watson’s wife Mary, and now Mary has disappeared.

It is a cold London morning in 1887, and the discovery of a dead man in an abandoned house plunges Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson into a series of eight trying cases that will test the friendship of the two companions and threaten the safety of the country itself.

The scream echoed down the hallway, shaking me from my slumber and into the dim vision of the electric lights. Someone was banging on the door, and Watson scrambled to open it. I was bleary-eyed, still feeling a bit desensitized when Evelyn Reed burst in to the door. Her hands were covered with odious red, and tears streaked across her reddened face.
