  • 67: Comedy Writer Brett Allen and Sly Fox Hollow
    Apr 2 2024
Brett Allen is a graduate of Michigan State University and a former U.S. Army Cavalry Officer. He’ written two novels, Kilroy Was Here, and Sly Fox Hollow. He’s a husband and father of two. When not writing, Brett enjoys drumming his forehead against the surface of his desk and cursing softly under his breath.

    Sly Fox Hollow

William “Bomber” Merridan is a small-town grocery store manager by day and a cryptid hunter by night. While Bigfoot is sexier, Bomber’s passion is for the legendary Michigan Dogman.

Connie Hayes is Fox Hollow’s first-ever female Sheriff, not to mention the first Native American to hold the powerful position. Now, only months into her new role, she faces no shortage of obstacles from a town used to her patriarchal predecessor.

Normally, these two would mix like oil and water, but when the town mayor is brutally killed, both Connie and Bomber set off to find who or what is behind the slaughter. Not everyone in Fox Hollow sees the mayor’s death as a tragedy, though, and in a rush to fill the mayor’s seat, two polarizing local politicians use fear of the Dogman to stoke tensions and turn the once peaceful community into a cauldron of hostility, distrust, and political tribalism. As Connie hunts the killer and Bomber hunts his weird, regionally-specific werewolf, they uncover the truth of Fox Hollow’s murky past, a century-old curse, and a sinister plot that could leave the town in ruins.

    Kilroy was Here

U.S. Army Officer, Lieutenant Jared Rye is a battle-hardened warrior. Or at least he thinks he’d like to be. On Christmas Day, 2008, he arrives at the war with high hopes of battlefield glory and a lasting legacy, only to be relegated to a Squadron desk job. With the help of his Squadron’s “accidental Chaplain”, a local interpreter bent on leaving for America, a perpetually drunk Russian contract pilot, and his fellow staff officers, Rye navigates a yearlong deployment on a rural outpost in Afghanistan. As he seeks to find meaning in the war, Rye faces oddities and mishaps ranging from an inter-Army mafia of lower enlisted soldiers to a crippled, local boy with a penchant for pornographic doodles, a two-faced local militant, and an autocratic Squadron Commander paralyzed by paranoia. Rye’s unlikely friendship with his interpreter becomes the bedrock of his sanity, as he grapples with the reality of America’s “Forever War” and his perceived lackluster war experience. But when a series of roadside bombs cripples a resupply convoy, the soldiers of Titan Squadron look to the highest ranking officer remaining and Rye must put his training to the test to lead an assault against an enemy of unknown strength.

  • 66: Horror Writer Mike Bockoven and Fantastic Land
    Mar 26 2024
Mike Bockoven writes thrillers, horror, and other stories while his kids are in gymnastics class or at piano lessons. He lives with his wife, Sarah, two daughters, and an exceptionally dumb wiener dog named Sherlock.

    Fantastic Land

Since the 1970s, Fantastic Land has been the theme park where “Fun is Guaranteed!” But when a hurricane ravages the Florida coast and isolates the park, the employees find it anything but fun. Five weeks later, the authorities who rescue the survivors encounter a scene of horror. Photos soon emerge online of heads on spikes outside of rides and viscera and human bones littering the gift shops, breaking records for hits, views, likes, clicks, and shares. How could a group of survivors, mostly teenagers, commit such terrible acts?

    The Pack

Cherry, Nebraska, population 312, is just off the highway between the sticks and the boonies. It’s where Dave Rhodes and his friends have lived all their lives. They own businesses, raise families, pay taxes, deal with odd neighbors, and, once or twice a month--just like their fathers before them--transform into wolves.

It’s not a bad life, but when one of the group members goes astray, it sets in motion a series of events that will threaten to destroy the delicate balance that has kept Dave and his clan off the radar. Between a son getting ready for his first transformation--called The Scratch--a wife with sordid secrets, a new sheriff who knows nothing of the creatures in his midst, and a mysterious man in a bow tie with a shady agenda, the middle of nowhere is about to get very dangerous.

  • 65: Ep. 65 Life on Death Row with Dr. Bill Kimberlin
    Mar 19 2024
Dr. Bill Kimberlin has been researching and writing about death row and the execution process for well over a decade. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice, a Master of Arts degree in Counseling, and a Doctorate in Psychology. Kimberlin began a postdoctoral residency in psychology but was most interested in understanding the worst of the worst criminal minds. This led him to focus on the psychology of those on death row and to his book, Watch Me Die.

In Watch Me Die, Dr. Bill Kimberlin explores the grim realities of death row in Ohio and across America. He spends time interviewing inmates and eating meals with them. In some cases, he is the last person to speak with them before they die. From the moment they are placed on suicide watch until the moment they are executed, Kimberlin follows their twisted and complex journey through the execution process.

Originally from Ohio, Bill and his wife Wendy and their two amazing children, Bailey and Mackenzie now live in Florida.
