As 2025 draws to a close, Jon is joined by Crooked Media's Jon Favreau and "The Bulwark" host Tim Miller. Together, they assess Trump's tumultuous first year back in office, discuss whether his declining popularity offers reason for optimism, and examine what lies ahead for both parties as he enters lame-duck status and the races for both the midterms and presidency begin. Straight out of the gate I was grossed out as the bro banter punched down on people who wear medical masks to work. Considering the vast majority of people wearing masks pro-actively are either immunocompromised, taking care of immunocompromised people or politically mindful of vulnerable populations, this plays about as well as Trump's caricaturish mocking of a disabled reporter's movements.

Masks are disability aids. They make invisible disabilities visible. People who wear them are subject to harassment and abuse, including criminalization and loss of access to certain businesses that have banned them. Quite brave of you who don't experience any of that to laugh about how weird the two people masking in any given space are.

The rest of the episode is shitting on liberals for supposedly not being pro-actively progressive enough. Biden's achievements are characterized as extending ACA subsidies and little more when Biden literally got us a green new deal.

It is Stewart's fault (not alone, but not insignificantly) that progressives didn't and still don't know what Biden accomplished. If the dude spent half the time acknowledging the actual work that leftwing politicians do that he does criticizing what they're not doing we might have more of a fighting chance of keeping those achievements.

I suspect smug cynicism is a more comfortable position for the media bros he invites on the show than taking an actual vested interest in the work people have been doing at all levels of governance to try and make the world better. You can't be wrong if you just keep shaking your head.

Wait till Mamdani starts the actual work and you three will do nothing but trash him until people forget what they were so excited for, just like you did with Obama and Biden.
