Why Marriage?

Why do we choose to get married? Is it because we believe it gives us a partner for life who will be there for richer or poorer, sickness and in health, til death do us apart? Is it because we want to be taken care of in some form or another? Is it just because of sex, raising families, or just the fear of not being alone the rest of our life?
