What the Darkness Cannot Overcome
Daily Reflection:
Sometimes the darkness around us can feel overwhelming, and we feel like giving up.
“As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” — John 9:5
Many of the scriptures we read were written in extremely difficult times by people who were under enormous pressure.
The suffering was real.
The hardship was real.
The injustice was real.
And the same is true in our time.
The problems we face are not imaginary.
The pain is not small.
The inequality and cruelty are not things we can ignore or deny.
But they do not have the final word.
“Jesus spoke of a light that the darkness cannot overcome.”
This moment of despair is only a moment.
The darkness cannot endure.
The light of love that still lives within us
cannot be extinguished.
And even more than that, scripture tells us that we are children of light.
“We once were darkness, but now in the Lord we are light.” — Ephesians 5:8
So we are not only meant to look toward the light.
We are meant to let that light live through us.
As long as we do not give up, the darkness does not win.
