  • Does Weird Win With Matt Watson-Power?
    May 1 2021

Weird Wins is a short-form conversation exploring what makes an individual tick and what lies behind their passion. It champions the 'weird' in everyone - because, after all, in a sea of same Weird Wins. This podcast is an exercise in communication by Andrew Backhouse Design and always has the guests best intentions at heart.

On each episode, the exact same six questions are asked to the differing guests and a conversation will hopefully flow out of it.

This week I am speaking with Matt.

Matt holds a decades-long passion for photography and it has led him to study the subject at Art College. He has been on his journey from 35mm film through to smart phone photography, via the early digital rigs and on to the modern DSLR outfits.

I hope to explore what makes a photo experimental and how Matt has immersed himself in online communities to further his knowledge and his love of the subject. If photography is Experimental, does that make it a stand alone artform or is it a fad or gimmick until technology progresses? I hope to ask the question, what makes photography experimental and why this appeals to Matt?

So without further ado - let's see why Weird Wins with Matt...

This week I am speaking with Andy.

I first met Andy through his fundraising for Doctors Without Borders. I quickly learned that Andy has successfully completed a number of medical missions with Doctors Without Borders - or MSF or Medicine sans frontiere as they are also known. This included harrowing work at an Ebola Clinic in Sierra Leone.

Andy has cycled across America to raise funds for the MSF cause; their cause is to bring much needed medical aid to those who are going without it.

On this weeks episode of Weird Wins, I hope to ask Andy The Six Questions and to frame the conversation around his love of the iconic band The Beatles.

It may seem weird to ask a man who has a glowing reputation in the field of tropical medicine about a band who he adores. A band who, some say, changed the world through their music. It could be seen as weird, maybe wasteful. But, I am trying to find the man behind the protective suit.

So without further ado - let's see why Weird Wins with Andy....

This week I am speaking with Elliot.

Elliot is an up and coming DJ in Yorkshire and beyond, with a string of Residencies and his own radio show on local radio in North Yorkshire, called Rotation Radio. He is a graduate of the prestigious Leeds College Of Music.

Having DJ'ed professionally for a number of years, Elliot is happiest when there is a crowded room in front of him, dancing to his selection. I have known Elliot since 2014 and I have watched, in admiration, as his career has progressed. His dedication to his craft is matched only by his knowledge of the local scene.

When invited on Weird Wins, Elliot was one of the first people to get back to me which is an honour.

So without further ado - let's see why Weird Wins with Elliot.....
