  • Dorothea Puente Part 2: The Boarding House of Horrors
    May 14 2024

    Summary

In part 2 of the series, Lindy discusses Dorothea Puente's time in prison and her release. They also talk about a strange incident involving a missing hammer and a haunted house. The conversation then shifts to Dorothea's new relationship with Everson Gilmouth and the joint bank account they open. Dorothea continues her boarding house operation, taking in dangerous individuals. She pays a carpenter with a truck to build a box, which turns out to be a makeshift coffin. The box is later dumped in a popular dumping ground. Dorothea Puente, a boarding house owner, continues her killing spree by targeting vulnerable residents. She befriends them, offers them drinks laced with drugs, and then kills them. She buries their bodies in the garden and disposes of their body parts outside the city. Dorothea's victims include Everson Gillmouth, Dorothy Miller, Benjamin Fink, Betty Palmer, and Leona Carpenter. She uses various methods to kill her victims, including drug overdoses and cutting off their hands and feet. Dorothea's charm and grandmotherly persona help her gain the trust of her victims. Dorothea continues her killing spree, targeting residents of her boarding house. She manipulates and controls the residents, using fear and deception to keep them silent. She kills James Gallup and Carol Dunning, and treats her other residents poorly. She even kills her trusted assistant, Chief, and buries him in the backyard. Dorothea's house emits foul smells, which she blames on various excuses. She invites Bert, a gentle giant with schizophrenia, into her home and eventually kills him too. Dorothea's crimes go unnoticed until a social worker, Judy, becomes suspicious and starts investigating. Dorothea Puente, also known as the Death House Landlady, was a serial killer who operated a boarding house in Sacramento, California. She targeted elderly and disabled individuals, luring them into her home and then murdering them for their money. Puente buried the bodies in her backyard and cashed their social security checks. She was eventually caught when a social worker became suspicious and alerted the police. Puente was convicted of nine murders and sentenced to life in prison. She died in 2011 at the age of 82.
