  • Ep 174 What’s the deal with raw milk: Part 1
    Apr 29 2025

Seriously, what’s the deal? Lately, it seems like raw milk has started to pop up more and more frequently in our feeds, with influencers touting the alleged health benefits of raw milk over pasteurized milk. In this and next week’s episode, we explore the raw milk phenomenon as it has grown over the past few decades. We start this two-parter with a look at the dangers of milk in a pre-pasteurization world, how Pasteur developed the life-saving process that bears his name, the subsequent rise of anti-pasteurizers, and how the anti-science sentiment surrounding raw milk today reveals a larger and more troubling agenda.

Tuberculosis, or consumption as it was once known, might conjure up images of huge sanitoriums or writers and artists from the late 1800s (Moulin Rouge, anyone?). In this week’s TPWKY book club episode, we’re thrilled to be joined by the one-and-only John Green to chat about his latest book, Everything Is Tuberculosis. Tune in for a fascinating conversation that tours the past, present, and uncertain future of this devastating illness.

Infectious podcast!

There’s nothing quite like getting to deep dive into all these infectious diseases without having to do any of the challenging research. Thanks for sharing your hard work, Erin and Erin!

Well Rounded Excellence

So far I am a fan of the Erin and Erin. It’s fun to listen to the banter and wealth of information. They both sound like empathetic and wonderfully intelligent women. I have started from the first episode and am working my way up. Thank you for the entertaining education.

Fascinating and Funny

(long time listener on a different platform)
This podcast might just be my #1 favorite! Very well researched, with detailed explanations of biological mechanisms and processes as well as great storytelling when it comes to the historical side of things. I love the genuine enthusiasm with which the Erins talk about all these horrible pathogens (because yes, they ARE FASCINATING) and the occasional anger about the mistreatment of people in the name of medicine over the course of its history.

My favorite podcast

I love this fun and informative pod! I always learn a lot about biology and history. The narrators ("the Erin's," since they're both named Erin) are funny and thoughtful.

This is a great podcast! Educational and Sassy

These two women are smart, funny and I've learned so much about topics I'm not sure I wanted to know.. with their fascinating focus on Poop, Diseases, Poison, and basically everything under the sun, clearly these two are scientists and their repartee is hilarious. I'm going to be binging all 150 episodes now!
