The Uncut Network - Directors, Actors and Genres

By: The Geek Show
  • Summary

  • Directors Uncut has evolved to become the Uncut Network. Joined by an array of cool voices from the UK podcasting scene, Rob looks at movies in all shapes and sizes. Each episode focusing on one filmmaker from the many walks of life and corners of the globe, we've also got the same for fan favourite actors and obscure, and weird sub-genres. Seriously, we get super specific. We touch on everything on the Uncut Network. It is is the Movie Podcast with all the niches! …Mostly. We don't do musicals.

  • Heroic Bloodshed (Hard Boiled and More)
    Jun 7 2024

We might be a day late in getting the show out, but in doing that we bring with us violently futile gestures, and doves flying through the air in show motion as we dive through the air dual weilding handguns.

Rob is joined by Larry (Your Move Creep) & Ben (Cymreig Samurai) to talk about this uniquely Hong Kong style of action cinema. In this episode the trio talk about The Long Arm of the Law (1984), Full Contact (1992) and the one movie of this type that everyone knows, Hard Boiled. It's a surprisingly informative episode this, so it's best you listen via a tab open on Letterboxd. We throw loads of recommendations your way.

If you enjoy the show, and let's face it, you did - you can support us on PATREON where you will get loads of goodies, namely, podcasts and articles too niche to fit the main site. Whether that is a bonus podcast of this very show that specialises in horror franchises or a bonus episode to our sister show, Pop Screen. There's also more written articles than you could ever want about Doctor Who, X-Files, Red Dwarf and other non-sci-fi stuff too. Give it a look-see, and tell them Rob sent you.

  • Jamie Lee Curtis (The Fog, True Lies & More)
    May 23 2024

We return for another fan favourite in this latest Actors Uncut cycle with Jamie Lee Curtis.

Joined by Gav and an Andy who never turns up (this is another cursed episode), we look at John Carpenter's 1980's movie, The Fog. A very under-appreciated antithesis to 1990s cop thrillers with Blue Steel. And we finish it with Arnold Schwarzenegger's 1994 subversive classic, True Lies.

Along the way, Rob and Gav talk about her run as the trailerblazing Final Girl as well as her lack of leading roles and how hollywood has treated actors of JLC's generation. To which the TLDL is... badly.

If you liked this podcast, which of course you did, you can also support us on PATREON. If you do join us, you'll get loads of articles, as well as a bonus edition of our podcasting sibling, Pop Screen. Then there's the podcasts that I am actively involved in, Last Night which is due to drop any day now, and the entire archive of Uncut from the Video Aisle - our horror spin-off which is between series right now. But that'll return soon, as will we, but you'll have to listen to find out what we'll be covering.

You can also find Gav on the My Favourite Film and Double Feature Podcasts. Find more here

  • Reese Shearsmith (Psychoville, A Field in England & Inside No 9)
    May 9 2024

A little later than planned due to issues with our editing software, but here we are, better late than never, with British TV favourite, Reese Shearsmith.

And there we have it, TV favourite, this is a very different episode than usual due to us covering two TV shows (and a movie) instead of the typical three movies. That trio includes Psychoville, Ben Wheatley's A Field in England and Inside No. 9. And to discuss these trilogy of Reese Shearsmith projects, Rob is joined by Faye (twitter), Caitlyn (linktree) and Mike (linktree).

When I'm not putting my foot in my mouth, we touch upon Byker Grove, Bob Mortimer, The League of Gentlemen, theatre adaptations, and much much more. And if you enjoy what you hear, consider subscribing and leaving us a rating to help the show out. If you want even more, we have a PATREON. Where you can find our spin off show, Uncut from the Video Aisle - which is just off the back of a Mr Vampire Series. A Bonus episode of our sister show, Pop Screen. And the monthly roundup pod, Last Night (you guessed it, which drops on the last night of every month). As well as much, much more.
