  • 643: Back, w/ NFL Playoffs & NBA at the Midway - The Roundup Podcast, w/ the Guru, Gabe Goldield & Your Host, Vincent
    Jan 14 2026

On today's show, after an unplanned but unavoidable hiatus, (which was caused in part by tech issues resulting from a real actual Act of God, and the audio is still not quite right for a few minutes near the beginning, sorry!) we are finally back, and just in time to catch up on the NFL Playoffs after a tremendous Wild Card Weekend. I'm super high on the Bills and Rams as favorites, the Guru likes the Hawks and Pats, but in our hearts, we're all Bears fans right now as we ride with Gaber through a dream season. Plus, what we liked from the Jags, the Niner's good luck, the Packer's bad luck, and no one wants to talk about the Eagles. Then, a quick look around the top of the NBA, midseason, with the Thunder still atop the League, but as good as OKC is, and as good as the 2023 Celtics were, are they historically great teams like their advanced efficiency ratings and differentials suggest, or could current league trends actually be inflating their ratings? Plus, our mid Warriors, just mid at the midseason. It's brief…So sit back, its NFL Playoff time crunch time and the NBA at the midway point and we're breaking down how it's all unfolding, next on the Roundup Podcast so let's get rolling . . .

If you're wondering what the intro/outro music on the show is, we lead off every episode with an amazing song by Calexico called Close Behind, and for the closing music, the same song we've used every single episode so far, a beautiful rendition of the standard I Wish You Love, performed by a group called Friends of Dean Martinez, and special thanks to Joe Burns for letting us use his music here. So as always, a shoutout to the music we love, Calexico, Friends of Dean Martinez, check it out…

  • 642: NBA Incoming! Warriors Hopes, Plus NFL Rankings thru 6 & MLB Playoffs - The Roundup Podcast, w/ the Guru, Gabe Goldield & Your Host, Vincent
    Oct 14 2025

On today's show, we are just about to the most wonderful time of the year, and no, I'm not talking about Christmas. I mean the Sports Eclipse, that part of the calendar year when we have Major League, Baseball, the NFL and the NBA all at the same time, and In honor of the occasion, we're gonna touch them all…,

    - starting by talking about the MLB playoffs, Tarik Skubel, the Seattle Mariners, the Milwaukee Brewers…,

    - and then look at our geriatric and undersized, yet ready to contend Golden State Warriors. #30 still keeps them in the hunt, but we're gonna need to stay healthy and see a lot of production from all the guards on the bench to get him to another title run.

    - And finally, we try to sort through some pretty wonky NFL standings to determine who the best team in the league is right now, plus a whole lot more!

    - So sit back, the sports eclipse is almost upon us and we're breaking down how it's all unfolding, next on the Roundup Podcast so let's get rolling . . .

  • 641: NFL View from the Top, NBA Offseason Wrap & Tarik Skubel Leading Off MLB Playoffs - The Roundup Podcast, w/ the Guru, Gabe Goldield & Your Host, Vincent
    Oct 1 2025

On today's show, we're ready to go, with 4 weeks of NFL action to confirm or contradict what we thought we knew coming into the season. Fortuitous we did so, cuz otherwise we likely would have had some chicken-little takes on the Lions, but instead, we have a nice sample size to work with as we observe and evaluate everything we see on Sundays…and Mondays, and Thursdays, and sometimes Fridays or Saturdays, and soon to be Wednesdays. And we'll get to that, but first…

    - MLB Playoffs started yesterday with 4 games and a must watch starting pitcher on the mound in Tarik Skubel pitching an absolute gem to open it all up in the early game, and from there, it's been baseball all day.

    - Then, some NBA news, and more importantly, Warrior news, trickling in as the season approaches and just 3 weeks away, That said, we're saving our NBA Previews for a few more weeks.

    - Finally, with NFL Week 4 in the books we get down to business evaluating what we've seen, as we start from the top, culling pretenders from the 3-1 and 4-0 teams and recognizing the true contenders, before…

    - another of my "which NFL player (or players) are moving up the all time rankings this season" trivia game, this week, looking at 2 WRs who are currently pacing towards breaking into a top 10 all time either this season or next…,

    - sharing some of our favorite players to watch do their thing on the field this year (Garrett Wilson, JK Dobbins, Cam Skattaboo, among others)…,

    - and more!

So sit back, it's MLB Playoff time, NFL Week 5 is on deck, the NBA season is 3 weeks away and we're breaking down how it's all unfolding, next on the Roundup Podcast so let's get rolling . . .

    - ranking Judge with the other most elite hitters in my Top 10 Batters in the league today rankings, overall best batters, the 1st Team All NBA level or NFL 1st Team All-Pro level hitters in the league today, not just the best this season but guys w/ some high ceilings who have routinely hit those highs and strike fear into opposing pitchers…,

    - and of course there's an Outside Looking In group who couldn't quite crack the Top 10 but deserve acknowledgment,…

    - the best up and coming, breakout type players in the game…,

    - and, a group of superstars w/ a lot of high MVP finishes who may be on the downside of their careers.

    Jun 20 2025

On today's show, while the casual NBA fan might have sat this Finals out, what with no LeBron, no Steph, no Jokic, not even an Anthony Edwards, us hardcore hoop heads have had ourselves a fantastic series, and to top it all off, we get a Game 7 on Sunday! But first, we need to catch up with all the action, so we're talking…

    - how the Pacers have made this a series despite being significant underdogs the whole way…,

    - why OKC has had such a hard time putting the Pacers away…,

    - and what to expect Sunday, before segueing away to discuss…

  • 636: Pacers/Thunder…Ratings Nightmare? or, A Hoops Nerd's Dream Matchup! - The Roundup Podcast, w/ Your Host, Vincent, & the Guru, Gabe Goldfield
    Jun 3 2025

On today's show, we have a lot of NBA Playoffs to catch up on. Despite our best efforts, Gaber and I just couldn't connect until today, so we're gonna get in the way back machine to…

    - give our Warriors' season a post-mortem…,

    - as well as recap what we saw elsewhere around the conference semis, before moving on to the…

    - Pacers' unlikely Eastern Conference title, and how they beat the Knicks (pace, defense, sum of the parts, etc…) as well as examine…

    - the Thunders' decisive series win against the Wolves (and continued pursuit of the "dream season", with best record, scoring champ and mvp; just need the title and a Finals MVP for Shai for the perfect season).

    - Then we make our Finals predictions, preview the series and much, much more!

So sit back, it's the NBA, all NBA and nothing but the NBA today as the Finals are upon us, and we're breaking down how it's all unfolding, next on the Roundup Podcast so let's get rolling . . .
