  • Does Manual Bidding Actually Work?
    Mar 4 2026

Today's question is about using manual bidding like cost caps to control costs while scaling budget when campaigns perform well. By default, Meta tries to get the most results while spending your entire budget, which means a mix of auction costs. Jon explains why setting manual bid controls usually leads to inconsistent delivery and questionable quality, how it might restrict you to low-quality placements, and why outsmarting the algorithm rarely works.

  • How I Actually Approach Targeting in 2026
    Mar 2 2026

Most advertisers obsess over targeting inputs that either do nothing or actively hurt results. • Do You Need Separate Ad Sets for Customer Personas?

When I think of Jon I think of a wise owl. I have been in digital marketing since 2009 and of all the marketing experts I have learned from, he is one of only a few who have been faithful to their topic. He is the first person I think of when I have a Facebook problem to solve... because he has answers. He is patient and objective. He just says it like it is. When Facebook changes the algorithm, he is the first person that I hear it from. When something new begins to work, he is the first person I hear it from. When something stops working, he is the first person I hear it from. And if I could only pick one of his free content sources, I would pick the Pubcast. It is like a mini masterclass on whatever the topic is. More wisdom packed in than meets the eye.
