In Sidekicks, an asthmatic kid named Barry survives middle school by imagining he’s best friends with Chuck Norris—which is honestly a better coping mechanism than therapy. In real life he gets bullied by a guy who looks legally old enough to refinance a mortgage, but in his head he’s roundhouse-kicking ninjas like a junior action star. A kindly karate teacher (played by Mako) tries to turn those fantasies into actual confidence, mostly by steering him toward the most inevitable 90s solution: a karate tournament. In the end, Barry learns to believe in himself… and is rewarded when Chuck Norris shows up in real life to personally confirm that yes, this kid is now cool.
