In this wild ride of an episode, Mindy (Mindy Lahiri) hits a major snag — she discovers she hasn’t paid taxes in six years, and the tax lien threatens to sink the whole medical practice. To save herself (and the office), she turns to her ex-boyfriend and lawyer, Cliff (guest star Glenn Howerton), hoping he’ll bail her out — but there’s a catch: he won’t take her case unless she pretends to be single. So begins a messy, comedic ruse: Mindy fakes a breakup with Danny (Danny Castellano), hides all her stuff from his apartment, and re-establishes “relations” with Cliff. The plan works… until cliff drops a bombshell: Danny is still legally married. Mindy’s world tilts, trust shatters, and what began as financial panic becomes a full-on emotional crisis.

Meanwhile, the office subplot doesn’t let up: coworkers Peter and Jeremy (Peter Prentice and Jeremy Reed) continue their awkward — and often hilarious — rivalry to win Lauren’s (Lauren Kolchek) affections, turning everyday work interactions into a cringe-comedy triangle of insecurity, jealousy, and poor decision-making.
