  • Showing Up Again After a BIG Rejection with Tabitha Panariso
    Mar 31 2026
Show Notes: In a world that often celebrates perfection, many of us grapple with feelings of inadequacy, rejection, and the longing for belonging. On the way to BIG dreams there are often tables we are never invited to, doors that close right in our faces, and we already know we will have to endure "no" after "no" before we finally get the YES that will change our lives. In this episode of the Mary Marantz Show, I had the honor of sitting down with Tabitha Panariso, author of "Loyal in His Love: An Invitation to be Held by Jesus When Others Let You Go." Together, we delve into the complexities of chasing approval, confronting perfectionism as an armor of protection, and embracing the beauty of our imperfect journeys that are always right on time. In this episode you'll discover: *How our unseen rejection wounds shape everything we believe *That we are operating under a currency of confirmation bias: What we look for, we find *What it looks like to grieve the story you WISH you had *Why "resistance" is a truth teller *All the ways we abandon ourselves *Why belonging is wired right into us as humans for survival *Why the solution to rejection might in fact be MORE rejection *What we get so very WRONG about "Rejection is Redirection" *The importance of secure attachment and reparenting *and SO much more!

  • Showing Up in the Both/And of Life: How Counterweights Keep Us Standing with Shannan Martin
    Mar 17 2026
This week on The SHOW UP Season of The Mary Marantz Show, Mary sits down with Shannan Martin, author of Counterweights: An Essential Practice for Holding Hope in a Heavy World, to dive into showing up in the BOTH/AND of life… holding on to both the beauty and the horror of the world with both hands. The two talk about the power of community and practical ways to carry hope amid chaos. If you're feeling overwhelmed by the heaviness of the world, this episode if for YOU! In this Episode, you'll hear:
    • Why poet Rainer Maria Rilke once said, ""Life is very singularly made to surprise us...where it does not utterly appall us."
    • What it means to "carry the cosmos" without slipping into carrying the weight of the world
    • The counterintuitive Theory of Balance that tells us to carry something hard… carry something equally heavy in the other hand.
    • Why Shannan doesn't believe in chasing traditional "life balance" but instead embraces a push/pull approach inspired by Chef David Chang's interplay of complex flavors
    • How strange it can be to buy flowers in a world on FIRE
    • The MANDATE for Joy Shannan prescribes us as necessary to continue fighting for the cause of humanity
    • Why the parable of the scattered seeds in the Gospel of Mark went from a "me" story to an "US" story for Shannan
    • The reminder from Shannan's son that Jesus is the "God on the Ground" and what we have to learn from that.
    • ...and seriously SO much more!

  • Show Up and Have Zero Chill (Even If You Risk Getting It Wrong)
    Mar 13 2026
In this solo episode of The Mary Marantz Show, Mary explains an A-ha moment that changed everything for her… this realization that nonchalance is really just a SNEAKY sub-genre of procrastination. Drawing from her time in law school, Mary talks about those times when she wanted to turn around and go back rather than face down the Socratic method. We do that, don't we?

We get so afraid of failing, that we would rather not show up to our own lives at all present and accounted for... than risk showing up and getting it wrong. Than risk putting ourselves out there not knowing all the answers. So we swing to the OPPOSITE extreme. We still show up, but we pretend like we don't really care that much. Yea, yea… we're chasing that dream but if it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. We begin to believe that if we reject the dream before it has a chance to reject us… then we'll never get our hearts broken. But all that ultimately leaves us with is… regret. Instead, we have to show up and have ZERO chill about the dreams we are building. That we GET to live a life like that. Even if that means we occasionally risk getting it wrong.
