  • Hekman and Stremming: New paper on prevalence of behavior problems in dogs in the US
    Mar 4 2025

A new paper, "The prevalence of behavior problems in dogs in the United States," is getting people upset - is it true that 99.78% of owners think their dog has a behavior problem? That's not actually what the paper says, and I'm here with Sarah Stremming of Cog Dog Radio for a joint episode. We talk through the paper's findings and what it means for those of us trying to make the world a better place for dogs.

Most helpful podcast for breeders and puppy buyers

I stumbled across this podcast, and I am SO GLAD! There is a wealth of information in every episode. I have learned a lot about the shelter system, good breeding practices, what it means to breed for function and behavior, coat color genetics, etc. I really think the FDC could be critical in discouraging puppy mills. I have already recommended this podcast multiple times. It is invaluable!

I love all the unbiased information. The information is scientifically factual. The guests are well educated on the subject matter and the host explains more complicated subjects in layman's terms.

Provoking conversations for thoughtful people

The most fascinating and easily accessible conversations about dogs. I am a preservationist breeder interested in the history, evolution, welfare, and public perceptions of dogs and related canids. With a background in maize genetics, this podcast has deeply changed my ideas and opinions on my favorite organisms, dogs. From where do new dogs come? What is a breed? What do you associate with ethical breeding practices, and can the answers be different for different dog groups? More people need to hear this podcast! because it grows great exposure to ideas that deserve sampling.
