  • What is Wrong With Commenting on People's Bodies?
    Apr 17 2026

We've all heard it. The "well-meaning" comment about someone's weight. The unsolicited skincare suggestion. The backhanded compliment that was somehow supposed to make someone feel better. And the classic defence — "I was just concerned."

    But were you, though?

This week on The Embrace with Ayanpella Podcast, we're getting into one of the questions that came in from last week's episode, and it's a good one:

What is actually the difference between body shaming and genuinely pointing out a health concern? Because the line exists. But a lot of us are crossing it without realising it.

    This episode covers:

    • What body shaming actually is, beyond the obvious examples
    • The three things that separate real concern from shame
    • Why "well-meaning" advice online is almost never actually well-meaning
    • When it is okay to say something — and how to do it right

This episode is equal parts honest, uncomfortable, and necessary.

  • Beauty Standards: Next Time They Body Shame You, Do This.
    Apr 10 2026

Let's talk about something that almost everyone has experienced, but not enough people know how to handle — body shaming.

In this episode, I share some of my own body shaming experiences, including one that has left me in tears in her hostel room. If you've ever been on the receiving end of an unsolicited comment about your body, you already know the feeling.

    We're getting into:

    • Why body shaming cuts so deep, even when it's "just jokes"
    • What it means that these beauty standards are so deeply programmed into us that we start to internalise them ourselves
    • Practical, honest ways to respond when it happens, whether it's from a stranger on TikTok, a coursemate, or someone close to home
    • and so much more

This isn't a fluffy, feel-good episode, sincerely. It's an honest conversation about navigating a world that has opinions about how your body looks, and how to protect your peace in the middle of all that noise.

  • Beauty Standards &Self-Esteem: Your Wig, Your Worth
    Mar 27 2026

In today's episode, we're talking about something that doesn't get talked about enough: the quiet but very real way wigs have moved from being a fashion choice to a measure of a woman's worth. We're talking about how it happens, where it comes from, and what it's doing to the way we see ourselves.

    This episode covers:

    • How media has shaped what "polished" looks like, and who gets to be taken seriously

    • The difference between wearing something as an expression versus wearing it as armour

    • Why wigs aren't the problem, and exactly what is

    • How to build an identity that doesn't rise and fall with what's on your head

This is not an anti-wig episode. But your worth was never in the hair, and by the end of this episode, I hope you really believe that.

  • Beauty Standards & Self-Esteem: They Lied To You About Glass Skin
    Mar 20 2026

Everywhere you turn, someone is selling you a routine, a product, or a promise to achieve glass skin. But how did we get here? And more importantly, does it even make sense?

In this episode, we discuss the obsession with “glass skin” and what it says about modern beauty standards. From the science of what healthy skin actually looks like, to the cultural pressures that shaped this trend, this is a reality check on everything we’ve been told to chase.

    We also get into:

    • What “glass skin” really is (and why it’s not as realistic as it looks)

    • The difference between healthy skin and “perfect” skin

    • How beauty standards quietly shape your self-perception

    • The role of marketing, influencers, and overconsumption

    • Why doing “more” isn’t always better for your skin

    • And the bigger question: why are you doing any of this in the first place?

If you’ve ever felt pressured to fix things about yourself you didn’t even notice before, this episode will help you pause, reflect, and re-centre.

Trends will always come and go, but your identity? That has to be deeper than whatever is trending this week.

  • Why Beauty Standards Will Never Let You Win
    Mar 6 2026

This month on the podcast, we’re talking about something many of us quietly wrestle with: beauty standards.

    Where do they come from?
    Who decides what is beautiful?
And why do they seem to keep changing every few years?

In this episode, I’m opening the conversation with a personal story about body shaming and the moment I realized how powerful beauty standards can be in shaping how we see ourselves.

From the pressure to look a certain way to the subtle ways society assigns value to appearance, from expensive wigs to trending “glass skin”, beauty standards are always shifting.

And yet, many of us build our self-worth around them.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re somehow “not enough” because of how you look, this conversation is for you.

    • Why falling back into insecurity doesn’t mean you’re failing

    Feb 20 2026

This is the final part of the breakup & self-esteem recovery series.

In this episode, we’re talking about the part people don’t prepare you for: the messy middle of healing.

The urge to go back. The loneliness. The triggers you didn’t expect, and the fear of trusting again.

Rebuilding your self-esteem after a relationship that chipped away at it isn’t just about affirmations or “moving on.” It’s about learning how to sit with discomfort, detach in healthy ways, process your emotions, and slowly rebuild trust in yourself.

    We’ll talk about:

    • Rebuilding self-trust in small, practical ways

    • Managing triggers and emotional flashbacks

    • When (and how) to think about dating again

    • Why healing your self-esteem isn’t linear

If you’re healing from a relationship that made you question your worth, this episode will help you feel less alone and more grounded.
