Creating a new state in Nigeria requires much more than drawing new boundaries on the map.

Experts estimate that it would cost between ₦50 billion to ₦100 billion just to establish the basic infrastructure.

And the costs don’t stop there. Each new state is expected to spend at least ₦10 to ₦20 billion annually on recurrent expenses.
