Depending on who you owe money to, there are different definitions of vulnerability - a word which most people don't identify with. However, it goes to show that every sector in the debt industry is thinking about how it can best support people who are, for one reason or another, struggling to start their debt free journey.

In this episode, we look at the different definitions of vulnerability used by the financial services regulator, the Financial Conduct Authority, Bailiffs, the electricity and gas regulator, Ofgem, the water regulator, Ofwat, as well as both central and local government, to try and help you to understand how each of these sectors might be able to help you.

This time we're taking a look at how public sector organisations differ in their debt collection practices.

In this episode, we'll discuss the different ways that banks, credit card companies, subscription services (think Amazon, Netflix etc...), buy now pay later (Klarna, Clearpay, etc...), utilities (gas, water, electric), telcos (mobile phones) collect debt. You will be treated differently depending on who you owe money to! Which ones will just send letters and call you? Which ones will take you to court? Which ones will send a bailiff? In the next video, we'll look at public sector debt - child maintenance, court fines, benefit overpayments, tax debt (HMRC) and council tax.

Understanding why your bank or credit card company sees debt differently to how you see debt is an important first step in knowing why certain things happen. Why does a debt collector get involved? Why are they taking me to court? Will someone come knocking at my door? All of these questions and more will be answered, as well as how you can start to deal with it.
