Listening is the first essential language skill that humans use to learn. Babies and very young children cannot read, write, or speak, but by "hearing" rich vocabulary, they are later able to reproduce language structure and vocabulary in speaking and in writing. The infant brain is developing rapidly and it is critical that intellectual stimulation is nurtured. The truth is that children cannot produce what they have not heard and/or seen. Reading is critical to their language development and this is why the Avant-garde Books Team has created this special and engaging podcast. A young boy learns that he is walking in the footsteps of greatness through a vibrant, lyrical retelling of Black history—both a love letter to Black children and an anthem empowering them to know their God-given worth.“A reminder to Black children that they are capable of greatness.”—Kirkus ReviewsYou came bustling into the world,a mighty bundle of energy, ready to do great things. And no wonder. You stand on the shoulders of those who came before, and you, too, were born to shine.Starting with his birth, the boy’s father lays out the history of his son’s ancestry: from the love and warmth of a big family, to the change makers and status shakers, the inventors and engineers, the astronomers, philosophers, and storytellers, the leaders and the doctors. The father details the legacy and impact of Black ancestors whose determination, strength, dedication, creativity, and leadership contributed to making the world better.Throughout the story, the boy discovers the rich heritage of those that have gone before him and learns how he embodies that same greatness. He, too, has the power to change the world by embracing exactly who God made him to be."You Come from Greatness" includes illustrations of Black historical figures such as Wangari Muta Maathai, Ellie Mannette, Rebecca Lee Crumpler, and more, with twenty short biographies at the end of the book.#readaloud #readaloudforchildren #storiesforkids #storytelling #storytime

Description: Jayden and a new friend bring nature to the city in this timeless story about a community garden
Amidst all the buildings, people, and traffic in his neighborhood, Jayden sees nature everywhere: the squirrels scrounging, the cardinals calling, and the dandelions growing. But Mama doesn’t believe there’s nature in the city. So Jayden sets out to help Mama see what he sees. With the help of his friend Mr. Curtis, Jayden plants the seeds of a community garden and brings together his neighbors—and Mama—to show them the magic of nature in the middle of the city.

Timeless and vibrant, this story highlights the beauty of intergenerational relationships and the power of imagination and perseverance in bringing the vision of a community garden to life. Jayden’s love of nature will inspire readers to see their environment and surroundings as bursting with opportunities for growth and connection. At the back of the book, readers will find activities to make items found in the book, such as the milk jug bird feeder.

Jayden’s Impossible Garden is the winner of the 2019 African American Voices in Children’s Literature writing contest, cosponsored by Strive Publishing and Free Spirit Publishing, and the recipient of the 2021 Foreword INDIES Honorable Mention, Picture Books, Early Reader (Children's).

Very nice, clear articulation.
However, SL Does not say /slah/
It says /sl/ both continuant sounds. If you stretch out the word sleep you can hear the /l/ sound not /lah/ sound Sllleeep
Adding the shwa ending /ah/ makes the L a stopped sound but it is not.

Not accurate for early and struggling readers.
