A pub a few steps from UT Austin is named “1972,” and that one choice quietly tells a whole story about power, policy, and why women’s sports look the way they do today. We start on the Drag at a patio that buzzes with game-day energy, then trace the name back to a real turning point: the signing of Title IX and the massive leap it created for women’s athletics in public schools and universities across the United States.

From there, we connect the dots to women’s college basketball and the Texas Longhorns program, where the ripple effects of Title IX show up in visibility, investment, and the expectation of competing on the biggest stage.
