A great pop song doesn’t disappear, it waits for the right moment to come back with new meaning. Cheryl Lee sits down with Tania Doko, the unmistakable voice behind Bachelor Girl, to unpack the band’s return with a reimagined “Treat Me Good” featuring Jessica Mauboy from upcoming “Waiting For The Day Redux Artist Sessions” album. We talk about what it takes to revisit a well-loved catalog without turning it into museum glass, and why putting songs “in new clothes” can reveal fresh emotion for both old fans and new listeners.

Tania shares the personal road behind the music: finding her confidence as a young singer, the family influences that shaped her sound, and the decade she spent in Sweden writing with top-level creators while building a life that eventually brought her back to Australia.

We also get into the craft side of a music career, including writing for other artists, stepping in and out of the “artist machine,” and learning when a song needs depth and when it simply needs joy.

One of the most moving threads is Tania’s work in youth detention and residential care, and her belief that music can communicate what a lecture never will.

Add in stories of high-pressure performances like singing at the AFL Grand Final, plus details on the upcoming Bachelor Girl tour dates and how the live show will blend new versions with old memories, and you’ve got a conversation built for anyone who loves Australian music, songwriting, and comeback stories done right.

If you enjoy it, subscribe, share it with a friend who grew up on Bachelor Girl, and leave a review with the song that still takes you back.

A two-time platinum, eight-time gold, APRA award winning career doesn’t happen by accident, and Jack Jones is refreshingly honest about what it really takes. From a vivid New York childhood to restarting life in Australia at ten, Jack shares the moments that shaped him before Southern Sons ever hit the charts with Heart In Danger and the songs that still define 90s Australian rock for so many of us.

We get into the obsession that turns a kid with a ukulele dream into a serious guitarist: the long practice days, the breakthrough plateaus, and the mentors who pulled him into bands and studio work early. Jack also breaks down the myth of the “overnight success” and what changes when the industry machine kicks in, from demos to touring to the pressure of suddenly being the voice at the front of the stage.

Then we fast-forward to the choices that matter now: stepping away from The Fabulous Caprettos, building a recording studio, and protecting creative space for new records. Jack explains why Southern Sons leans into nostalgia without turning the music into a gimmick, how the band is refreshing the show with new energy, and what fans can expect when those classic hooks meet a tighter, hungrier lineup.

If you care about live music, songwriting, and how artists balance legacy with growth, hit play. Subscribe, share this with a Southern Sons fan, and leave a review telling us which classic you never want “reimagined.”

  • What has John Brewster of The Angels been up to lately? OR Celebrating The Song That Would Not Die

A rock song can be a hit, a memory, or a punchline. Very rarely, it becomes a national call-and-response that people pass along like a secret handshake. That’s what happened to The Angels’ “Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again,” and I’m joined by founding guitarist John Brewster to explain how a debut single that initially flopped grew into one of the most recognizable moments in Australian rock.

John takes us back to Adelaide and into his family’s deep classical music lineage, including his grandfather’s role in the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and how that DNA later fed into the ambitious Symphony of Angels shows. We also get into the messy, practical side of building a band: early promo gigs, being broke on the road, and the pressure of throwing “normal careers” out the window and hoping the music works. Along the way, John shares a moving story about his dad finally listening and offering rare praise that still echoes decades later.

We dig into songwriting and influence too: watching AC/DC record at Albert Studios, chasing a sound that isn’t a copy, and the Bob Dylan connection that shaped John as a rhythm guitarist while Rick Brewster became a singular lead voice. Then we tackle the mystery every fan loves debating, the first night the famous audience response exploded in Mount Isa in 1983 and how it spread across Australia with no internet. John also reflects on the “50 Years On” tour, the bandmates, crew and fans they carry with them, the next generation onstage, and the unexpected global reach that includes nods from Metallica, Keith Urban, and Jelly Roll.

If you’ve ever yelled the response, heard it in a pub, or wondered how a live moment becomes folklore, this one’s for you. Subscribe, share it with a mate, and leave a review with your first memory of hearing the chant.
