  • S1E16 | Float Trips, Garden News, and Sleepy Hollow Controversy
    May 21 2024

Welcome back to "Something in the Wild," your go-to podcast for tales and insights from nature. I'm your host, Tyler Smith, joined by the lovely Samantha Falloon. In this episode, we dive into some intriguing and varied topics, starting with the dramatic developments in the Sleepy Hollow Board of Supervisors meeting. We've been closely following this issue, advocating for the preservation of a historic piece of land against aggressive development plans. Despite a significant turnout of concerned residents and experts presenting well-researched arguments, the Board approved the preliminary designs, leaving us and many others disheartened. We'll discuss what this means for the future of Sleepy Hollow and the next steps in our advocacy. After covering the somber news from Sleepy Hollow, we shift gears to recount a more personal adventure. Over the weekend, I embarked on a nighttime float trip after a disappointing turkey hunt. With the river as my guide, I navigated through twilight, enjoying the tranquility and unexpected encounters along the way. A chance meeting with some friendly locals offering burgers and beers turned a solitary trip into a memorable evening. This experience reminded me of the joys and unpredictabilities of being in the wild, even when initial plans don’t pan out. Finally, we bring you some updates from our homestead. Sammi shares the latest from our garden, where we've been busy tending to our plants and preparing for the upcoming season. We're also in the midst of an exciting new venture: searching for a camper to enhance our outdoor escapades. We'll discuss the features we're looking for and how this addition will support our adventures and podcasting. Stay tuned for a mix of heartfelt discussions, light-hearted stories, and plans for the future in this episode of "Something in the Wild."
