  • How Gaming and Play Can Foster Healing and Connection in Our Lives
    Feb 26 2026

What if video games could help us heal, connect, and rediscover joy—instead of fueling anxiety and disconnection?

This is the question at the heart of a recent episode of Roaming with Restless Women, where I chatted with Carissa Karban, co-founder of two ventures blending technology and healing, including the innovative AI-driven cozy game, Astra Puffs.

Carissa emphasizes that we all need to reclaim the Joy of Play! Why?

As adults, we often lose touch with the pure, agenda-free playfulness we had as children. Society tells us to hustle, check off to-do lists, and “earn” our worth. But play is essential for creativity, healing, and nervous system regulation.

    Some tips include:

Schedule Play Time: Block out time for activities that are fun for their own sake—whether it’s a cozy game, doodling, or dancing in your living room.

Release the Outcome: Let go of the need to be productive or “good” at what you’re doing. The point is to enjoy, not to achieve.

Notice Your Body: Pay attention to how your body feels when you’re truly playing. Do you feel lighter, more relaxed, more open?

Carissa emphasizes that play is not frivolous—it’s a way to reconnect with your true self and regulate your nervous system. “We need to reclaim the joy of play as adults,” she says, “not just for fun, but for our well-being.”

  • Painting Through Pain: A Journey of Resilience and Healing
    Feb 24 2026

I’m beyond excited to share the latest episode of Roaming with Restless Women with you. This is one of my very very favorite guests! Cheri Carandanis is an artist whose journey from nursing to painting is nothing short of inspiring. Here’s a sneak peek into our conversation that you won’t want to miss!

Cheri's 25-year nursing career ended abruptly due to brain injuries, but she found a new path in painting. Painting became Cheri's therapeutic outlet, helping her heal physically, mentally, and spiritually. Her art is a beautiful blend of grief, gratitude, and grace.

Cheri's background as an Air Force nurse, including her intense experiences as an ICU and hospice nurse, adds a profound depth to her story. The loss of her father in a tragic accident and the miraculous recovery of his body by sea lions is a poignant part of her journey, influencing her art and healing process.

Cheri's work is deeply intuitive, often starting with layers of paint and evolving into powerful, expressive pieces. Her painting She is Not Moved (that I now own!) is a striking example of resilience and determination.

Cheri's story will remind you that it’s never too late to find a new purpose and passion.
