With the significance and diversity of wildlife all around Oban and the islands, there is a concerted effort to ensure visiting the area is as ecologically sound as possible.
Public transport is encouraged, with bus, cycling, walking and low emission boat tours providing a myriad of ways to enjoy the area with a lighter environmental impact. Travelling to Oban by train is recommended, with the journey from Glasgow to Oban being one of Scotland’s most scenic. You’ll take in the mountains, lochs and heather moors as you travel along the west coast, before arriving in Oban around three hours later.
Oban is also home to the Scottish Association for Marine Science or SAMS, a marine science institute working to secure healthy and sustainable oceans. The Ocean Explorer Centre at SAMS is well worth a visit to discover the science behind our oceans.
You can plan your sustainable Oban adventure today by exploring our website for plenty more ideas of how you can spend your time around this unique town in the West Highlands.
