The Profiling Evil Podcast delves into unsolved criminal cases from around the world, peeling back the layers of human behavior to reveal what drives evil. We look into the mind of the predator—their motivations, their victim selection, and the patterns that expose them. Each episode goes beyond headlines, examining how investigators identify red flags, connect the dots, and capitalize on the very errors offenders believe will never be found.

Your host, Mike King, brings over four decades of experience in criminal justice and behavioral analysis. A retired law enforcement executive, Mike served as Chief of Staff to Utah Attorney General Jan Graham and Weber County Attorney Reed M. Richards. He began his career at the Ogden Police Department, where he worked patrol, motor enforcement, and SWAT before moving into investigations where he led task forces that hunted serial predators and violent offenders.

Mike’s expertise earned him national recognition. He served as co-chair of the FBI’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Program (ViCAP) National Advisory Board, directed UTAP, the Utah Criminal Tracking and Analysis Project, and supported intelligence operations during the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City.

After retiring from public service, Mike joined the Environmental Systems Research Institute (Esri), where he spent years consulting with police agencies around the globe on intelligence gathering, emergency communications, and major event management. In 2024, he retired again, this time to focus full-time on Profiling Evil and its growing community of true crime investigators, students, and enthusiasts.

Mike is an internationally recognized speaker, trainer, and adjunct professor, as well as a visiting scholar at multiple universities. He’s authored several acclaimed works on crime and human behavior, including:

    The Long Island Serial Killer case may be heading for one of its biggest turning points yet. Multiple outlets are now reporting that Rex Heuermann, the New York architect charged in seven murders tied to the Gilgo Beach investigation, is expected to plead guilty in April of 2026. That plea has not yet been entered in court, and a judge would still have to accept it, but family members have reportedly been notified, and the guilty plea would make his September trial unnecessary.

    In this episode, we’ll sit down with veteran filmmaker Josh Zeman, the award-winning creator of The Killing Season, to talk about what this means. We’ll revisit the case, something we explored years earlier and examine the evidence prosecutors say tied Heuermann to the murders.     In this video, I’m doing two things that belong in the same episode. First, I’m going to walk through the 10 biggest takeaways from Part 1 of Savannah Guthrie’s interview about her mom, Nancy Guthrie, using the transcript so we’re all talking about the same words, not a game of telephone. Second, I’m going to straighten out the date confusion that keeps getting repeated online, January 11, January 24, and January 31. January 31 is the anchor date the public already understands as the last day Nancy was seen, before investigators believe she was taken. January 24 keeps showing up in reporting tied to requests for neighborhood footage. And January 11 is the date that got tangled up in a tech “best guess,” then walked back publicly after Google clarified a suggested date tied to a Nest image could not be confirmed. People Magazine reported Sheriff Chris Nanos withdrew that specific January 11 ask after that clarification. On top of that, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department has warned people not to turn the released doorbell stills into a calendar, because those images have no timestamp, and calling them “different days” is still speculation.

As someone not in law enforcement, I appreciate how Mr. King explains the legal requirements to solve a case. I enjoy learning about these cases in a factual presentation rather than a more dramatic presentation. Mr. King's personality comes through in the conversations. The interviews flow and the listener (in my opinion) gets the impression that the guest and Mr. King have been friends or associates for a length of time. This genuine quality comes through in both these podcasts and the YouTube presentations. I hope y'all like it!
