  • Heather Fraser on the Science behind Maple Syrup (replay) | Pickle Planet Podcast S8EP22
    Mar 9 2026

March in New Brunswick is all about one thing – maple syrup. The sap is running, the sugar shacks are open, and the pancakes are stacking up. But behind all the yummy fun we civilians enjoy, there’s some serious business at play – and some serious science, too!

Heather Fraser spent 30 years working for the City of Moncton, including launching the city’s maple syrup production, the first municipally-operated sugar bush in Canada. Since retiring from that position, she’s launched her own business, Explore Nature’s Bounty, which works to connect people with the world around us all year round.

But her passion for maple syrup couldn’t be stopped. She joins us on the podcast to share a snippet of what you’ll learn if you join her on a guided tour this season.

This episode originally aired in Season Five, but we think it deserves a replay this maple sugar season! Find a maple camp to visit with our annual Guide to Maple Sugar Camps near Moncton!

  • Tammy Rampersaud publishes children's books tackling body autonomy, boundaries, healing, and more | Pickle Planet Podcast S8E20
    Feb 23 2026

It's always a privilege when someone feels comfortable enough to open up in our studio. We've welcomed Tammy Rampersaud to the show before, sharing about her life in politics and work with community groups such as the Courage Centre. But this discussion is much more personal, highlighting her decision to share her personal journey as a childhood abuse victim through writing. She's published two beautiful books for young audiences, and shares plans for a memoir to come.

    • My Body, My Rules is written for young children, with beautiful illustrations and a gentle pace and message of body autonomy and setting boundaries.

    • The Line I Draw is written for older children, particularly tweens and teens grappling with childhood trauma. It's a story of finding your own voice and building strength.

Tune in to hear Tammy share how these books are helping her and her family, and her hopes for the impact they will have for other children facing difficult, unsafe situations.
