Welcome to People, Planet, Progress, broadcasting the first and third Tuesday of every month at 6:30pm, following Alan Stahler’s “Soundings,” only here on KVMR.
Today we talk about ways to reduce our impact on the planet that don’t require fancy new inventions or tons of financing, and instead involve ways to think and act and organize ourselves smarter, using aviation as an example.
A recent study shows that carbon emissions from aviation could be cut 50-75% by doing three simple things: 1) use efficient aircraft (many aircraft are old and inefficient), 2) make sure they are 95% full when flying, (the global avg is 80%), and 3) eliminate special large-area seating (business/first class) in order to have more people on board each flight.
We end the show with our usual page out of the book "Go Outside: 365 days of Personal Climate Action Inspiration."
