  • HFF25 TOWN HALL #2 HOW TO MAKE YOUR SHOW ACCESSIBLE

ORIGINALLY RECORDER ON Sunday, March 9th, from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

ASL interpretation provided by The Sign Language Company https://signlanguageco.com/

Join us as we discuss and celebrate practices to make your Hollywood Fringe Show accessible to all audiences. Our 2025 Accessibility Town Hall is being led by the festival’s Artist Services Manager, Rody, and Marketing and Operations Manager, Jeannette. We will cover everything from venue flags to tech elements, programs, meeting accessibility requests, language interpretation, social media and website content, and a plethora of best practices that make theatre more accessible to everyone.

This Town Hall is followed by a Q&A.RECORDER We dive into the essential aspects of making your Hollywood Fringe shows accessible to all audience members, providing practical guidance on implementing inclusive practices for independent productions.

    • Accessibility flags on the website help audiences identify shows that meet their specific needs
    • Content warnings are crucial for audience safety and should be specific about potentially triggering material
    • Communication with venues is essential as each space has different accessibility features
    • ASL interpretation, relaxed performances, and assisted listening devices can make shows more inclusive
    • Priority seating access and size-inclusive options should be considered when planning performances
    • Personal accessibility requests through the ticketing system allow direct communication with patrons
    • Clear pre-show communication about parking, venue layout, and what to expect improves accessibility
    • Honesty about what accommodations you can and cannot provide is better than overpromising
    • Thinking of accessibility as an ongoing journey rather than a checklist leads to more inclusive productions
    • Small changes can significantly impact audience experience without compromising artistic vision

If you have questions about accessibility for your show, email support@hollywoodfringe.org or schedule a one-on-one consultation with the Artist Services Manager through the artist newsletter.

Learn from our brilliant panelists how to practice fully inclusive producing and intersectional approaches to personal stake in ending white supremacy in and out of the theatre space. From auditions & casting, community building, audience engagement, marketing, and show content. Recommended for new & veteran producers alike! This isn’t about white savior-ism, this is personal stake work, as it relates to multiracial spaces.

    GOALS OF THIS EVENT

    • - To build a shared understanding of racism and how it functions on interpersonal, institutional, and cultural levels
    • - To unpack systemic racism, white supremacy and its affect on the theatre industry at large
    • - To share tips and tools for challenging racism in theatre spaces
    • - To identify how these issues affect our daily and work lives
    • - To build a community understanding of how to decenter yourself in multiracial spaces, while also having a personal stake in ending white supremacy.

This workshop will include a learning session with definitions and resources, a facilitated conversation with white antiracist organizers, and a Q&A, where white artists can ask questions they may feel uncomfortable asking in multiracial spaces.

This workshop is centered around white artists, not to take power away form BIPOC, AAPI, MENA artists, but to alleviate the burden of education on those folks. Any artist, from any racial background is welcome to attend.

There is a BIPOC affinity space, led by our Access Committee, to hear feedback in making Fringe a more inclusive space and build community together, available during the Festival! More info coming soon!

HFF workshops are “pay what you can” with a suggested ticket price of $5

    PANELISTS

Elliot Evans (they/them) is an award-winning writer, actor, and cult survivor. Growing up on the East Coast, they cut their baby teeth in professional theatre by performing in everything from Shakespeare and McDonagh to Brecht and Churchill. After dropping out of arts school (and a brief stint at Mardi Gras), they hitchhiked across the country to chase the American fever dream. Since landing in LA, they have appeared on multiple networks and streaming platforms and have racked up accolades from various festivals and awards, including Cannes Short Film Festival and the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA). At the 2024 HFF, they co-created and starred in Vanlyfe—a site-specific homeless epic which depicts the material challenges faced by the unhoused queer community, including mental illness, police brutality, addiction, and transphobia. Framed by their experiences as a traveler, organizer, and formerly unhoused queer person, their work primarily focuses on vulnerable populations at the fringes of the social fabric and the ways that community empowerment centers and uplifts marginalized voices. Currently, they are busy writing, playing, and building collective power on both the East and West Coast. To follow them before the meta-fascist take-over loses steam, they can be found on Instagram @screenactorsguilt

Zander Raphael (Ayeroff) (they/he/she) is a gender-fluid actor, singer, producer, experience designer, clown and performance artist.
