    In this episode, Pamela discusses stories about the Meuse-Argonne offensive, which was a major part of the final Allied offensive of World War I that stretched along the entire Western Front. It was fought from September 26, 1918, until the Armistice of November 11, 1918, a total of 47 days. Pamela’s paternal great-grandfather served in this battle, which was the largest offensive battle in United States military history, involving 1.2 million American soldiers, sailors and marines.

    In this episode, Pamela discusses stories about the American Civil War (April 12, 1861 – May 26, 1865; also known by other names), which was a civil war in the United States between the Union ("the North") and the Confederacy ("the South").

    The South was formed in 1861 by states that had seceded from the Union to preserve African American slavery, which they saw as threatened because of the election of Abraham Lincoln and the growing abolitionist movement in the North.
