    Matthew 6:25

    "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?


    The Worry Shift


    Worry is not primarily an emotional problem.


    Matthew 6:19-34

    "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.

    20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.


    You don't have to worry when you have treasures in heaven.


    22 "The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!


    You don't have to worry when you know what is true.


    24 "No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.


    You don't have to worry when you trust God.

    25 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?


    "Do not worry" is not "don't plan," "don't work," "don't use wisdom," and "don't care about others' needs."


    "Do not worry" means "do not be pulled apart in many directions."


    Stop obsessing over what God is already committed to handle.

    Jesus' three illustrations against worry:


    26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

    27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

    28 "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.

    If I'm not going to worry then what am I going to do???


    33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

    The most powerful shift you can make is to seek God's kingdom.

    Philippians 2:6-11

    6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;


    7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.


    8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!


    9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,


    10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,


    11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

    Ephesians 3:20-21

    Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,

    21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

    Proverbs 11:24-25

    One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. 25 A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.

    Above and Beyond

    God has gone above and beyond by going low.


    God became one of us (Incarnation), died for us (Atonement), rose for us (Resurrection), reigns for us (Intercession), and put His Spirit in us (Indwelling).


    God is the first and greatest giver.


    Generosity is a response, not an initiation.


    God calls us to go above and beyond.


    Mission: to help people follow Jesus.


    Vision: to see God do immeasurably more in and through you.


    Generosity is an act of faith that moves us beyond theory to trust.


    Generosity goes above and beyond yourself.


    5G Strategy:

    Gatherings, Growth, Generations, Good Works, Global Discipleship

    Generosity is participation in transformation.

    Ephesians 5:8-14

    For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord.


    Live as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) 10 and find out what pleases the Lord.


    11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.


    12 It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. 13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light.


    14 This is why it is said:

    "Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."


    But Now

    Ephesians 2:13

    But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.


    Ephesians 3:4-5

    In reading this, then, you will be able to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ,

    5 which was not made known to people in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God's holy apostles and prophets.


    Ephesians 3:10-11

    His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, 11 according to his eternal purpose that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord.


    Ephesians 3:20-21

    To see God do immeasurably more in and through you

    Ephesians 5:8

    John 1:4-5

    In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.


    Matthew 5:14-16

    14 "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.

    16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
