  • Did Matthew Invent the Sermon on the Mount?
    Jun 3 2025

The Sermon on the Mount is probably one of the best-known speeches of Jesus, and if you’ve spent any time in a church service, then the odds are that you’ve heard at least part of it. It contains the beatitudes - “blessed are the meek” - the Lord’s Prayer, and a whole host of teachings that are held sacred by Christians the world over. But… did the writer of Matthew fabricate the whole thing? Today, Dr. Bart Ehrman joins me to talk about this amazing sermon, whether anything like it exists elsewhere in the New Testament, and whether Jesus is likely to have uttered a word of it.

  • How Many Jesuses Are in the New Testament?
    May 27 2025

Today’s title may seem a little bit odd - how many Jesuses are in the NT? I’m sure there are going to be several comments on YouTube from people who didn’t stay to watch the episode because the answer is clearly “one”. For those who want to see where we go with this, Dr. Bart Ehrman is going to be answering my questions on the different ways early Christians and writers of the NT viewed and understood Jesus, and whether all of those views and perspectives can be embodied in a single figure.

  • Why Early Christians Kept the Old Testament
    May 20 2025

If you have a passing familiarity with the Christian Bible, then you probably know that it’s split into two parts - the Old and New Testaments. The New Testament is the part with all the stuff about Jesus, while the Old Testament is drawn largely from Jewish religious scriptures. Today, Dr. Bart Ehrman is joining me to talk about why early Christians insisted on keeping the Old Testament… despite not being Jewish.

I read my first Dr. Ehrman book about 15 years ago, and I have read everything he's written since. While he didn't cause my own personal transition away from Christianity, his scholarship, knowledge, and ease of explanation made me feel comfortable about my transition. Even for a devotee like me, I have learned from this podcast.

Thank you, Bart, for sharing this knowledge.

This really is must listen radio for anyone living in the Western side of the world. Want to know why? Listen and find out!

Dr. Erhman provides a knowledgeable guide to a complex, highly fragmented religion. The podcast, hosted by Megan Lewis provides a deep dive into Christianity & the Bible - a subject that has influenced our past, present & likely future. Highly recommended.

A podcast worth listening to for a deeper understanding of Jesus & the Bible

I really enjoy listening to the history and politics of those days. not sure why Bart doesn't believe in God but he certainly knows the new testament forward and backwards.

Jennifer Knut was on the committee that updated the NRSV, already the standard academic English version of the Bible. She talks about the word duos (slave/servant), as well as the problems the committee faced.

An excellent talk on the NRSVue

Dr. Ehrman provides a deep historical knowledge-based and logical approach to biblical stories. It’s a must listen for anyone exploring what facts are available from 2 millennia ago and the investigation into the circumstantial data to determine the events that most likely occurred and what was believed at that time.

Fascinating podcast based on historical information

I’ve read & listened to dozens of religious scholars and Bart Ehrman is my absolute favorite. I’ve read everything he’s written but these conversations are just something you can’t get in a book. Highly recommend for people on the whole religious spectrum. It’s definitely in depth on topics you won’t get from any pew. And the current research discussed is great for atheists, agnostics, and even, or especially, practicing Christians who want to understand the history and context of the book that shaped western civilization and our current culture.

My favorite religious studies podcast. Actually my favorite anything podcast.

Bart presents the latest scholarship about the Bible and Jesus in a way that’s clear to the general public. He is neither pro nor anti Christian. He is so popular because he is so reliable.

Excellent and knowledgeable

False . His opinion is clearly secular deception. He is making his best effort to deny everything Christian's believe to be true.

Not Christian
