In this audio lecture you will learn what Lorentz force (magnetic force) is. First, you'll learn what causes the Lorentz force. Then we'll look at how a moving charge (electron and proton) experiences a deflection in the magnetic field and travels in a circular path. With the help of the left and right hand rule, we will determine the direction of the Lorentz force and thus the deflection of the respective charge. Here you will learn which hand to use for positive and negative charges. Then you'll learn about the qvB formula, which you can use to calculate the Lorentz force when the charge is moving perpendicular to the magnetic field. And finally, we'll do an example and bring centripetal force into play, which you can use to determine the radius of the particle's orbit or the speed of the particle.
