  • Live on Leadership with Beth and Jessica Sutter
    Mar 3 2022

It's not every day that I get to interview the President of the DC State Board of Education--but on today's podcast I did! When I met Jess she was a talented 8th grade teacher, and now she teaches policy at University of Maryland, consults for places like the Gates Foundation and is one of the most amazing elected officials I can think of, making change for kids. She spends a lot of time thinking about policy changes at all levels (school, district, city, state) and shares her amazing knowledge on it in our conversation. It was our first podcast with some tech difficulties, so you get to see the adaptability of leadership in action. (and we're working on that for future episodes, don't worry!)

  • Live on Leadership with Beth and Shannon Donnelly
    Feb 22 2022

Every CEO needs an amazing #2 in the trenches with them, and I was lucky enough to have Shannon Donnelly, today's guest, as mine. Shannon is an operations guru who brings order to chaos and was instrumental in helping the school I founded evolve from being people-dependent to systems-dependent. Shannon brings almost 20 years of non-profit leader experience to today's episode and we reflect on some of the lessons learned long that journey.

    Feb 22 2022

Today's amazing guest is Kunjan Narechania, currently a Principal at Watershed Advisors and formerly the Superintendent of New Orleans Parish Schools and the Assistant Superintendent for School Improvement at the Louisiana Department of Education at a time when Louisiana was making national headlines for the amazing work they did for kids. Kunjan and I go back to when she was taking her first business trips, packing her rollaway to sleep on my couch, and we reflect on what we know about leadership now compared to then, what we've learned along the way and how to lead large organizations.

  • Live on leadership with Beth and Tracie
    Feb 4 2022

Our first guest is a very special one... Tracie Sanlin, who took over as CEO of Chicago Collegiate, the school I founded. I am not kidding when I say I am a single parent of three amazing kids *and* I gave more thought to who took over "custody" of my school than what would happen to my kids if I died. We talk about leadership, Tracie's journey and experience leading both traditional public and charter schools and lessons learned along the way. Tracie self-identifies as a difficult person to coach, so get the tea here on how that played out in real life.
